I loved my old Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 SSC and the FD 200mm f/2.8. The 200mm was considered a luxury lens at the time. LOL!Just had to them rather than the 1.8 and 4. I was using them on the original Canon F-1 so the added brightness through the viewfinder was a benefit as far as focusing. If the lens resolution is basically equal I would sacrifice speed for focal length range these days. Just my way of looking at it. Maybe I'm totally out of focus on the issue. I've been called worse. MUCH WORSE!!!!!

Actually, you're in focus. I like things out of focus. :-)

Tonight will be very out of focus for me. It's a BBQ rib cook-off on the river with several bands. I'm already dreading tomorrow morning.

Thanks for posting the question. I also want to buy the 7100 and have been waiting for a deal. It was nice to read everyone's comments. May just have to go ahead and "pull the trigger". Currently have a Nikon D40. Need at least a 300mm lense so looking for a bundle package.

I doubt if you'll find a 300mm in a "bundle". With a crop sensor camera I believe Nikon has a 1.5x ratio so a kit lens rated at 200mm will be the equivalent of a 300mm.

the best time to buy is generally whenever the camera maker comes out with a new line of models and wants to get rid of old stock or if they put out a "dog" and want to unload those models. If you watch prices on Amazon, Adorama and B&H (and others) you will see that the prices on the same item frequently changes....for example, Adorama may have the same item that Canon is selling on its website, but at several hundred dollars less (a recent example I saw on a 18-200 refurb EF-s lens). You really do need to shop around to find the best deals....the price differences can be dramatic!

Heh. Folks really need to get over that issue. Would the 'wife' rather I be touching or shooting pretty girls?

That reminds me of someone who came to a Halloween party covered in boxes of Cheerios or something with knives stuck in them. He said he was dressed as a cereal killer. Won best of show.  Tells you a lot about the people I hang out with.
