I've decided to go for the upgrade from my nikon d3200 to the d7100, and Im just curious if there is a "better" time of year to buy a camera. I've noticed that Nikon, among others, seems to offer a lot of rebates.. (when I got my 3200 I believe it was $250. 00). I'm not opposed to paying the going rate, but would hate to see a big rebate come out a month later, but at the same time I don't want to wait forever to upgrade. .any thoughts, anyone? ??

On the D7100, if you want lenses, now is good. If body only, usually right around Christmas. Nikon does not really discount body only until that body is about to be "replaced". The D7100 is a great choice and you will love it. By the way, and this is not intended as an ad, but in addition to the 'extended warranty" through Nikon, which I purchased on my body (takes it to 3 years) I also purchased a Square Trade brand warranty for drops and wet damage.

• If you purchased Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) Coverage, the Protection Plan includes damage from item drops, liquid spills, or other accidental damage.
• If you purchased your Protection Plan the same day as the item, your ADH coverage begins one (1) day after your Protection Plan purchase.
• ADH does not cover willful damage, negligent use, theft, or loss.
it cost me $75.00 for 3 years.

Working with Nikon, you would be amazed at the times people called in wanting the camera that they dropped in the stream repaired under warranty and we had to tell them no.

No matter when you buy, there will be a better price somewhere, shortly after. Prices on bodies are pretty stable. The variation usually comes with packages of things you probably don't want. I bought a D600 with the kit lens and then sold it. That was the only way the camera was available at the time.

The best way to get a good price on a body is to buy a refurb.

Whenever you WANT a new camera is a good time to buy one. When you NEEDED a camera it is too late. Get it now if you can pay cash.

I remember being in the market for a camera as a gift for my daughter and I had a good quote from B&H in early winter. Unfortunately, I didn't decide to buy the camera until early Spring and the quote had expired so I had to pay much more. B&H told me that cameras don't go on sale in Spring because we're moving into Summer which is a high season. So I'd say Fall or Winter would be the best times.

Actually-6:17 PM CDST, June 5th, which falls between Lent and Rosh Hashannah, in any year ending with the number 7. On that date, and at the proscribed time, any Camera Shop in Karachi will be happy to give you an 18% discount off the MSRP.

Not only support, but also encourage you to spend money.
That takes some of the pressure off us to spend. :D

Yes! My favorite lens is an AF Nikkor 70-210mm f/4-5.6 from 25 years ago. I would really like to get the newer 70-200 with vibration reduction ($600) or the constant f/2.8 70-200 with VR ($2400), but at less than $100 my old lens meters and auto focuses on the D7100, so I can wait.

Take a serious look at the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 at $1499 with a hundred bucks rebate. DxO has rated the Tamron a little higher and at 900 bucks cheaper, it is something to consider.

I'm kind of hesitant to buy a used one, not so sure about refurb. I know of people with refurb that have had trouble..you can't really tell if it's been dropped..I'm definitely getting a 7100, but may grab a flash unit and a couple nice lenses in the meantime, but that leads me to another question.. I think the 7100 has it's own focus motor, so would that let me get a different, I hopefully less expensive lens?
I've never hesitated to buy a factory refurb. My 7100 is a factory refurb, so was my D70s. I've bought a lot of factory refurb electronics without problems.

I've always found it was just after I bought the item in question.
