I have seen many many butterfly photographs, but, I never see them of the butterfly in flight.
Here are a few of mine. A butterfly is so much more expressive when it is aloft, don't you think?

Great photos..... especially like the first two....and the third one also....all great

I have always thought the butterfly was misnamed....it should be called a flutterby

Superb work. Digital technology has brought us gear that can finally make this kind of capture possible, but it still takes deft skill to pull off this kind of performance. Congrats on beautifully technical art.

Could you please post a list of your gear and settings? Though I don't think it will be anytime soon that anyone else will be able to reproduce your success!

Thank you for the kind words. For the most of the shots, I use a Canon 1 d mk 4, 100-400 lens. 1/2500, f5.6, iso 800. Post done in LR5.

Yes, I agree, it is much better to get a good shot of a flutterby in flight (I like that!), but it takes a lot more effort, skill, and patience. I spent about an hour photographing some moths (I think they're moths, not butterflies), got a bunch of good shots with them on a plant, but only a couple of good shots of them flying.

Good captures of those butterflies in flight.
If you think that's hard, try getting a shot of a bee in flight.

Bees are way easier to capture in flight. Not nearly as interesting.
