Some good things going on

Keeping politics aside, I would like to highlight something that was jaw dropping good going on.

My granddaughter just turned 15. She has always had an interest in playing the piano. She was not pushed per se, more encouraged to continue with this hobby. But she hated the old classical music that the teachers gave her, wanted to play rock music.

So my daughter found a "rock band" school of Music here in Mason Ohio. It is tailored to kids in high school, 15-18 more or less.

There are about 40 kids in the school, and they put on a concert the other night. I was absolutely astounded with the talent. They played about 20 pieces of music, rotated players in the band, singers, drummers, guitarists, keyboard. The quality of music was excellent, yes, perhaps not ready for cutting records yet, but certainly very good. The group had some incredibly talented individuals.

What is most exciting is the professionalism of a group of high schoolers. Each was dressed well, though still with the rock band themes. They were constantly expressing their appreciation to their parents for giving them the opportunity to be in the band.

Sometimes you have to sit back and think of something special. For me, this was special. I can't wait to go to their next concert in August.

This is awesome! I wish more kids had this kind of opportunity to thrive with others like them. Musicians are a special breed of artists and they deserve to be celebrated!

That's interesting, John, and encouraging. Many 'teachers' could benefit from this lesson today. They need to step into the person's world that they are teaching. Best of luck for success to your Granddaughter. Tell her WE encourage her too.

Sometimes all it takes is for an adult to really listen to help a teen along the way in positive ways. It is when we do not listen that bad things happen with teens. Sometimes they have more going for them than adults do.
