Nice capture, I've always wondered how when you see so many birds in one place that they don't collide more often....

Thank you very much, Tracey. It's the first time I have seen and shot this phenomenon. Stranger things have happened.

Thank you, Bruce. You would think the price of the Canon 100-400 would come down with the competition from the Tamron, especially knowing the Canon is an older type design. The Tamron 150-600mm lens is fantastic for the price.

I had a Canon 100-400 that never took a sharp image. I even sent it to Canon with comparison pics taken with an identical lens on the same camera with an obvious difference in sharpness of prints - Canon told me the lens was "within acceptable parameters" and lost the sample pics. I sold it and bought a 400mm which has been great but this Tamron sounds very tempting. BTW I love the collision shot!

John, I am glad you liked my unexpected shot of the colliding geese.
I love this lens with it's extra focal reach and also the fast focusing and great VC (vibration compensation) it has because I couldn't have gotten that shot so quickly without those lens attributes. All my shots are hand-held for the last 5 years and this lens has a good balance and it's weight at 4.3 lbs. is OK to deal with because you rarely get a shot like this one with a lens sitting on a tripod.

I never think of birds colliding. Pretty funny!

I saw two Canada Geese coming in for a landing on the lake when they smashed into each other. No harm done.
They were about 150 feet in distance.
Taken at 600mm.

Izzi, I share your same thoughts. I have photographed thousands of birds and this is the first time I have seen this event and also to photograph it.
Mother Nature has her ways of surprising us.

What an interesting and quizzical event, Reg! They had this whole lake/pond and they both vied for the same spot at the same time! What a mash of feathers! Canada Geese never fail to amuse/annoy.

Carlysue,
This lake (Hayden Lake) about 2 miles from me in North Idaho, is 6 miles in length. So, there should be ample room to make a comfortable water landing without smashing into one of your bird buddies. I have photographed a lot of birds and I have never seen this happen before. Maybe they were 2 males fighting over a female. Birds of a feather should stick together and just 'wing' it next time when they land in the lake. Ahhh...Geese, they are either trying to poop on me or crash landing near me.

Nice shot Regis, do you see any noise with an ISO of 1600 and if so did you clean it up. With my 7D at that ISO I'd have to work on it.
