I would just like to say, partially from comments here on the hog, and those from my local camera shop, I purchased the Tamron 18-270 lens and it seems AWESOME!!
I just had the 2 kit lenses that came with my 3200 Nikon, and this seems SO much better and I now never have to switch lenses, which it seemed I was doing constantly. One lens now gives me more range than i had with both of the others, and its the same 3.5 I had before. So far, I've only had one weekend (in Vegas) to try it out but I am 100% sure it was the right decision to buy that lens. For the money I don't see how you could do much better. I will try to post a few pics after I get them downloaded. For anyone looking for a lens in this range, for about $450.00 you can't go wrong - BUY IT- You won't regret it
Tamron make excellent lenses and are often very underrated.
The Tamron 18 270mm lens makes a good walkabout lens - Enjoy.
I'd like to say that I have this lens and am quite happy with it. I purchased this lens after dropping my nikon 18-135 kit lens (which I was never happy with). The Tamron 18-270 was half the price of a new nikon lens. Nikon has really put a hurting on my wallet through the years. The next lens I have to purchase will be another Tamron....
I've read bad reviews on the Tamron 18-270 but there are no complaints from me...... Oh, the lens stays on my camera 95 percent of the time - A great walk around lens ! ....
Really thinking about buying this lens. You guys are making it sound better and better all the time.

I have had a Tamron 18-270 for about 3 years now, used it on a D5100, D7000 and a D7100, it gives excellent results with all three cameras. I still have it, and would still be using it if I had not just bought a Nikon 18-300. The Tamron is much lighter and more compact than the big Nikon, so it is easier to use, but the extra reach of the 300 was calling me.

Also have the 3200 with the Tamron 18-270 stays on the camera 90% of the time. Happy with it so far.Shot I took last summer with the Tamron
Can this lens be used on a full frame camera?
I have been very happy with mine. It was the only lens I used in Africa ...

Didn't Tamron just come out with a new version of this lens? It seems like i read about it somewhere.

It's made for APS-C so it wouldn't cover the whole sensor at all focal lenghts even if you could mount it. With Nikon, you could use it, but would either be using the "crop" mode or get vignetting at wider focal lengths. The edges would probably not be as sharp as a lens designed for full-frame. There are no short-cuts for lenses on a full-frame camera.
I just posted a Tamron 18-270 for sale as well a Tamron 10-24 with a Canon 50d and more. Not that I don't like it, but I have moved up to L glass and a full frame 5dM3. It's posted in the classified area. Great lens.

Tamron 16-300 f/3.5-6.3 not yet available
The Nikon 18-300mm also has a max aperture of f/5.6 at 300mm whereas the Tamron has a max aperture of f/6.3 at 270mm. I bought the Nikon because of its somewhat "faster" performance at 300mm, like it very much, use it frequently as my "walking around" lens, but it is, in fact, heavy and large. Part of my physical fitness program, I guess
