Look at the Yongnuo products, and other flashes reviewed at:
"www.flashhavoc.com". I'm sure you find something there if not Yongnuo, some other Chinese flash, and flash triggers too. You can purchase these items on Amazon, or in the sister site of Flash Havoc, "www.Eachshot.com". I own two Yongnuo Yn 565EX II, and 3 Yongnuo Yn 622C triggers, all those products have worked flawlessly over 2 years of operation. The flashes cost less than half what the Canon comparable flash would cost. I'm sure there is a comparable flash for Nikon users too, I know they have Nikon comparable triggers. Good Luck.

The Yongnuo line is excellent, and you can find one to fit your budget, from the YN-565EX (+ II & III) through YN-580: http://speedlights.net/strobist-flash-brands/yongnuo-speedlites

Looks like you've "done it" while I was researching for you, but I'll post anyway .......

Depends whether you want TTL or can make do with a manual flash unit (usually cheaper than TTL).

Here are some options for your consideration :-

1. Manual

ii) http://flashhavoc.com/godox-v850-ving-review/
ii) http://flashhavoc.com/cactus-rf60-flash-v6-triggers-coming/ - not yet released, but won't be long !

2. TTL

it really ticks me off that canon, Nikon, and sony have their own hot shoes but don't make any budget prices flash units.

What ever flash you buy, you need to check that it has the proper voltage in the triggering circuit. Older strobes were great but the triggering circuit in the flash will damage the digital cameras. I have on old Vivitar 283. It is a great flash but not usable on my digitals when directly connected. The can be put on a remote sensor and be fine. A great use for older strobes if you want to monkey around with multiple lighting situations.

I absolutely, most definitely would NOT risk a D7000 with an older strobe. Damaging such a fine piece of equipment would be sacrilege.

thanks for the recommendation. I ordered the yongnu YN565EX TTL flash along with the RF-603N wireless flash trigger at amazon got the last one it also was on sale for $110.00. $32.00 for the trigger. I liked it so much that I ordered one for my canon 60D. Do you have to go in to the camera menu and tell it that you are connected to the wireless remote? please tell me how to set it up. thanks again. :P

buy used Nikon speedlights from keh.com you get a 6 month warranty and a flash specifically designed for your Nikon. Nikon is known fot the quality and performance of their speedlights. I purchased a sb-800 used at a substantial savings and enjoy using it with my df.

First off you will need two of these triggers. One to place on the camera, and the other for the flash. The 565EX does not have a built in receiver. The Yn 560 III does have a built in receiver for the 603 units. I shoot with the 7D, and do need to go into the flash control menu and select wireless flash. I don't have the 603, but the 622C units to give me the ability to use e-TTL through the 565EX. You new 565EX off camera will not give you E-TTL with the 603 triggers. Also, you may want to look at some "youtube" videos about off camera flash. Another thought, you will have to shoot those 565s only in the manual mode, since the 603s will not transfer the E-TTL data from the camera to the flash. If the 565EX is in the hotshoe, the data will transfer fine. You will have to set up the camera for E-TTL, and then you can use the E-TTL setting in the on camera flash, and that flash will be the only one using E-TTL data with the 603s. I hope this helps. B

Is the Yongnuo YN565EX Speedlite fully compatible with Canon 60D? Amazon list this Speedlite for the 50D. IT works on the 60D but I don't know enough about speedlites. Amazon shows the YN568EX for the 60D which cost more. I was wondering if I was missing out on something? Any information understanding this will be very helpful to me. Thank You. ;-)
