A couple of shots with a Canon EOS M...

Here's a couple of shots with I took with my EOS M for anyone who might be thinking about buying one. All shots were with the kit EF-M 18-55mm, f/3.5-5.6, IS, STM lens. The first one is self explanatory pretty much while the last couple need some information to go with them. All these shots were handheld. Includes a couple of night shots to give an indication of that capability. Obviously, these shots weren't planned or executed very well with no tripod used even at night although there was fairly good lighting but still shot way under recommended shutter speed for stability. I'm very pleased with the camera. It does shoot burst at 4.9 fps and can use the latest ultra high speed cards. I got an SD to microSD two card adapter so I have two ultra high speed cards in it and it seems much faster than all the reviewers gave it credit for. I probably won't monitor the thread but will try to answer any questions if anyone has any, allowing that I can answer, of course. :-D I'd just like to add that in the first image, the near mountain was a mere silhouette and was brought up in post processing by a fellow uhh member. I'm not much on post processing, or should I say I'm not very good at it in extreme situations such as this. It looks pretty good until you magnify it like the download does.

For those who may be unaware, this camera is Canon's first mirrorless and was priced in the $1,000 range. It was so criticized that Canon decided to dump it off and it has been selling for around $325 and with a $60 Fotodiox adapter it can use all of Canon's EF and EF-s lens and retains metering and auto focus. It has the 18 megapixel sensor that is used in the 7D and has touch screen and basically the electronics of the 70D. It's a neat little camera and with the 22mm pancake lens it will almost fit in a man's shirt pocket. With the 18-55mm it will fit in a jacket pocket - not much bigger than a point and shoot and shoot. It does shoot faster than my 5D2 and I use it to shoot sports, semi-pro football as well as wildlife. I think shooting action with the EOS M would be a little more challenging since it doesn't have a viewfinder - everything is off the LCD but it's pretty bright. If you pick and choose when you use this camera, it isn't half bad.

Thank you for the compliment, sailorsmom.

I really butchered those first two paragraphs above and something happened and I couldn't get back in to edit so I guess I'll just live with it. Sorry folks!

I have really butchered this thread. Here is the image that should have been posted instead of that first one. I guess I am more tired than I thought.

Supposedly with the latest firmware update, this model has gotten even more responsive. Are you running the latest firmware version on yours?

Yes sir, ver 2.02. It was already onboard when I got the camera.

I guess I should level the "water line" on this one. Looks like I split the difference between the level house and the slopping road. Maybe this is better. S'cuse me. I will remind you that these shots were all handheld and the night shots were at 6400 iso and done to show the level of noise. The quality would be much better shot on a tripod at much lower iso but for a quick "grab shot" these are not all that bad simply from the perspective of the camera, not counting whatever issues I, the shooter, brings into them like hand tremors, etc.

Thanks infocus. My goal with the night shots was to haphazardly give the camera almost no chance to produce a good image at night and to see what kind of noise problem there would be. I think it did a remarkable job and no de-noise effort was used. I feel confident that if I were to employ good technique I could rely on this little mirrorless camera in many situations. Right now I feel like it's the best $325 I've spent on a camera in a long time.

Hi Gessman,

I too bought an EOS M and after playing with it locally, took it to Las Vegas with me and I have to agree with you that it is the best $325.00 I have ever spent on a camera. I bought it with the 18-55 and then saw that the 22mm "pancake" lens was available at B&H in a white box for $99.00 so grabbed one of those. It was so nice to carry this little camera around instead of my big, heavy 60D and I achieved excellent results using the HDR function where the camera takes 3 shots and combines them in camera. I primarily used the 18-55 because it has image stabilization and it works very nicely. Canon's decision to pull this model really worked in our favor. I won't put any of my pictures on your post but will post my own when I get time. Enjoy your new camera.

 Gessman, I have one and I love it.

I also have a 7D with a small assortment of lenses. The 7D comes out when I want to go and take pictures. The Canon M comes out any time I leave the house. I have been happy with all of the images I have gotten with this handy little camera.

Hi Shaun. Thanks for the reply. I feel like a thief every time I pick my M up. I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your's as well. Even with the 18-55 on, I can still stuff the whole thing into my jacket pocket.

Please feel free to post any and all images on here if you'd like. As you can see, I didn't get much interest shown in this thread so there's plenty of room and then by all means, start a thread and put some more on there. I'd like to see how you used it and the results you got. I cannot believe how little noise I got at night shooting at 6400 iso. It blows me away. I cannot wait for the 2nd generation with all the innovation I expect Canon to toss at the mirrorless market. It ought to be great. I haven't used the hdr yet but will soon. I'm looking forward to that. I haven't even strapped a "L" lens on mine yet but am anxious to. Just have to make the time.

Great! I knew there were more of us out there and hoped to get a good turnout on this thread but it only got about 1100 views and very little reaction. Please feel free to post some images if you'd like. I won't be upset if your images put mine in the shade 'cause mine are just quick and dirty shots with no forethought or preparation. I'm anxious to get serious and see just what the M can do. Thanks for the reply.
