question about tablets and photos

Hi all..first time posting but I've been reading and learning a lot from you guys for a couple months now - thanks for all the great info !- I do a lot of motorcycle touring, and though I have a trunk and sometimes tow a trailer with my bike on longer trips, space is always at a premium. Price also comes into play here, but I do realize laptops can be even cheaper than tablets, but the tablets are sometimes more convenient. What I'm wondering is, will a tablet such as a samsung galaxy run a program like photoshop elements so I can edit pictures while I'm on my trips, or would I be better off with a small laptop? I realize the storage space is limited, but I could swap them to an external drive when I get back home. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thank you, Ed

Don't know about a tablet, but I run Gimp, PS Touch plus a whole slew of other apps on my Samsung S4.

I don't know about running the programs but if busted shutter is running on S4, then you would be able to run on a Galaxy tablet. One of the things I like about the Galaxy is that you can put an little sd card in it so you are not limited to only the storage space on the tablet itself. The manual says 32 gig card but I have a 64 on mine.

Only have an 8 gig in mine and constantly running low. Upgrade in the very near future.

I am not a big fan of tablets for photos, I can only speak for the Ipad which is what my wife has. its easy to load the images on the Ipad but the only way to get them off is to connect it to the computer and backup to Iphoto.
I currently have an old 13" macbook that I carry on vacations. but for touring on a bike I think I would try 11" macbook air & a small external drive. its about the size of a tablet but it's a computer. when you get home connect the external drive to your home computer and images are easily move as needed.
if you do go with a tablet this is another option for storing and transferring the images to you computer.

I am learning the media drive, it seems slow to use

Far as I know, except for PS Express, there isn't an android compatible version of Elements, so get a small laptop/notebook like a Windows or Mac machine. I love my Fire HDX 7" but it runs on Amazon's proprietary version of android. Same problem would happen with a Chromebook I'm sure, ditto the Galaxy. That's the main problem with anything running android--so stick with Windows or Mac.

Since I'm also a Goldwing rider also, I'd say concentrate on taking your photos leaving them on your SD cards, Enjoy the scenery and the trip and and worry about editing your pictures when you get back home. Otherwise you'll miss the vacation experience.

I email pix back and forth between iPad and laptop. Select the ones you really want to edit and email to yourself and download to the computer memory from there. And then, when edited, I email to self and then open in pad and post to fb. It also forces me to be selective.....

I have a Toshiba Thrive 10 inch tablet that I take with me when travelling. It has a slot for a full size SD card and a full size USB port that allows me to view my photos and then transfer the "keepers" to a flash drive in the USB port. As yet, I have not found a good photo editing program that will run on the Android OS. I wait until I get home and use my PC programs for any needed editing.

Photoshop requires a Microsoft or Apple computer operating system. Tablets are typically a simplified and less adept Android or iOS mobile operating system. So I doubt you're going to find serious photo editing software for either one. RAM memory is also very limited and storage before transferring to a hard drive is very inadequate on a tablet.

You'd be better off with one of the smallest new Apple laptops that are so thin you'd swear it's a tablet until you raise the lid and they have the awesome Retina display. A lot more expensive than a tablet but WAY more versatile and powerful plus totally capable of running any software you desire - whether it's photo editing or word processing and it has a real keyboard!
