I had my Canon rebel EOS T3i stolen a couple of weeks ago and am considering a Nikon D7100. Will I be disappointed?

The D7100 matches to the 7D. Being new technology it has leapfrogged the 7D in terms of image quality and noise control. It does not pass the 7D in all functions...But, you'll need new lenses for a Nikon mount. How much else was stolen and does insurance cover any of the loss?

Teddy, that's like saying you had your Honda Civic stolen and are going to replace it with a Corvette. You'd have to be R'ing. I. P., to not be disappointed.
If you are just gonna do general photography, anything will do.
But, there is a reason why Canon sells almost more DSLR cameras, than every other manufacturer combined.
And contrary to the belief of some, it's got nothing to do with marketing.
Have fun with your new camera. ;-)

Just in case you didn't get the message the first, second, third, fourth or fifth time. You will be thrilled with the D7100. It's a quantum leap from the camera you had stolen.

My opinion, the T3i is roughly equivalent to the Nikon D5100. For a couple hundred more the D7100 is several steps ahead of the D5100 and blows them both away.

I dunno if you would or not. But if you rely heavily on the articulating screen and really do not want to part from it, then you might be dissapointed with the D7100...but again...I don't know what you consider to be a dissapointment. and ?

I had the articulated screen on my D5100 and I really liked it. I thought I'd be disappointed with the D7100 because it didn't have an articulated screen. But the reality is the D7100 is such an amazing camera that I don't even think about the screen.

I would probably miss it, but not enough to be dissapointed about with a much better camera :)

There is no question that Canon had a better DSLR line-up up until 2007. I think the D3/D300 combo made it basically a dead heat, and that's still the case today. Obviously you think otherwise, I'm curious why.

I thought the D7100 lines up with the 70D, and the 7D lines up with the D400. ;-)

No such thing as a D400. The 70D is equivalent to the D5200, and the 7D is roughly equivalent to the D7000. If Canon comes out with a 7D MK II this next spring it will be roughly equivalent to the D7100.

If your alignment is correct (I think it is), then Canons are several hundred dollars more than the corresponding Nikon. That would be a mark against SharpShooter's placement of Canon significantly ahead of Nikon.
