Hi all, I just bought a Sony Nex 6 and would appreciate tips for jpg settins because I shoot only jpg. Would also like to know if the camera underexposes or overexposes in order to set the ex compensation.
Any other tips on settings for the camera are wellcome.
Thanks.
Why not just play with the settings and shoot pictures to see what happens. That's the best way to get to know YOUR camera. There will be variations to some extent on all camera bodies. The nice thing about digital, it doesn't cost anything to experiment. What you don't like you delete and the memory spot on your card is free again to shoot some more.

This I know, but its better to have a starting point that will save time.

Just start with the standard settings and follow what the camera gives you. Like I said, each camera is a little different and it also depends on what and where you shoot. The changes you make won't be that dramatic from what the camera tells you to use. By experimenting you'll get to know your camera controls inside out which in the end will make it faster and more instinctive to use. All of which can't help but make you a better photographer. The other source that's at your disposal is the internet with youtube and various forums specifically geared towards your camera.

I'd recommend surfing the "Serious Compacts" forum; specifically the Sony Nex section.
You'll get good info from Nex users.

Your starting point are the camera's default settings. Make a list of those and keep track of the changes made for each picture. Also rate each picture as to whether you like it or not. Do just one setting at a time otherwise you won't know what setting done what. Soon you will begin to develop your list of preferences for your camera. Key is to take it one step at a time and detailed notes.
Buy the book by Jerod Foster. It deals, specially with the great little camera.
I purchased a nex6 for a trip to Europe this past summer. Shot in aperture model with no issues. My pictures were in varied conditions including overcast, sunlight, nighttime, and indoors. My favorite lens is Zeiss 24mm f1.8. This lens is expensive but is just outstanding. I paid $1,100 for the lens. Today it is listed on Amazon for $900. I also have Sony 55-210mm, a $350 lens. My best picture from the trip was taken with the Sony zoom lens. The NEX6 is a great camera.
