As Sunwriter said B & H is good. So are Cameta Camera & Adorama. Best Buy will have a Canon & Nikon on sale Black Friday as well. if you time it right you might be able to get a 5 year warranty thru Nikon if they decide to do it again this year like they did on the D3000 last year.

BestBuy also has a price guarantee - they will match Amazon, B&H and many other big retailers pricing they also will give you a refund if their price goes down within 30 days of your purchase. This site http://www.photodeal.org/ tracks current photo deals.

Hello. I want to thank everyone that contributes to this site. There is so much wonderful information! I am looking to purchase my first digital SLR camera and, after researching my options, I am seriously considering the Nikon D3200 with the 18-55 mm lens. I think I talked my husband into purchasing it for me for Christmas and I would like to take advantage of Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals. I have been tracking the price and there are a few websites pricing the camera at $499. Does anyone have any thoughts on the best way to choose a seller? Also, should I consider purchasing a warranty? Thank you in advance for your input! -Karen

Welcome to our forum!

What the others said is correct. Buy from one of the sellers recommended here, and avoid low prices.

As for price competition, the camera will be about the same price, but dealers will sometimes include a memory card, filter, case, small tripod, etc. Look for something like that. "Free" filters are generally worth - nothing.

Karen,
Welcome to UHH! For what it's worth, here are some websites with good reputable dealers:

http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6-NIKKOR/dp/B007VGGFZU

I agree with sb -- go to a local camera store rather than mail order for your first camera for two reasons.

First, before buying a camera it's a good idea to hold it and let a salesperson show you how it works. The Nikon you've picked is a good camera, but you may find that it just doesn't fit your hands well or some other camera is easier for you to control. Things like that are strictly a matter of personal preference and more important than which brand you choose.

Second, a good local camera store is a great place to get help and advice after the purchase.

I am a prime member at Amazon so I get 2nd day delivery for free. I bought all my cameras and lenses from them. But now since they charge sales tax for Georgia I will buy from B&H. I have bought other stuff from B&H and like them. The also have a Rep who watches this site and if anyone has a problem she helps clear it up. Never have I heard about a problem twice from the same person.

Hi, Karen. Welcome to UHH. B&H seems to be unanimously recommended by Uhh'ers. If you live in the S.E. Michigan area, don't go to Woodward Camera (Royal Oak). Very unfriendly.

Welcome, your lucky , spouse buying photo gear for you, I prefer B&H, though I do buy other places when they can beat the price, on a warranty I only buy a camera warranty if it includes drops and spills, not many include water damage, a few do, Enjoy and have a good Christmas,
Bob.

I've also gotten a lot of good feedback on Roberts Camera in Indianapolis from other members on this site. Haven't used them myself, but their prices and praise rank right up there with others mentioned.

I have made purchases with Adorama and their customer service is the best. They are great to deal with and also have great deals and price matching.

I have always found the best prices are at Costco, if they have the item. They are selling the D3200 with a bunch of attachments. They also have a fantastic return policy.

Check out this link: http://www.costco.com/.product.100007777.html?cm_sp=RichRelevance-_-categorypageHorizontalTop-_-PopularProductsInCategory&cm_vc=categorypageHorizontalTop|PopularProductsInCategory

Good luck

Karen,

Nikon is a fine choice. They, like Canon and Sony, are fair traded in that Nikon, Canon and Sony set the MSRP. Any dealer deviating from Nikon's MSRP by more that $3.00 is subject to loss of product for 30 days on the first offense. What this policy assures is that any authorized Nikon dealer must sell the product for the same price. B&H, Adorama, Hunt's Photoe in New England, Best Buy, authorized Nikon dealers on Amazon all sell for the same price.

You don't mention where you are from but it behooves you to get to a local camera. store and hold the D3200 and get an explanation on how to use it to achieve the photo's that you desire. If you pay $50 in taxes that you would have saved buying out of state look at it as a flat fee for unlimited lessons. Also most dealers will swap out the camera if defective within 30 days. Many will swap it out for a full year if it's determined that the product has a manufacturers defect. That's a nice benefit for buying locally. The ability to stop in for pointers any time and a replacement camera on the spot for manufacturers defects.

Enjoy the D3200, wonderful camera

You cant beat Amazons' return policy if you decide you dont like it or would rather have another model.
They arrange for pick up at your house.
I get 90% of my online purchases from Amazon.
