The new Fuji X1 has a viewfinder as well so no need for arms length. Also interchangeble lenses.

That was what I meant: that people want viewfinders they can use at their eyes, the X1 (and indeed its forebears) being excellent examples. Sorry I wasn't clearer.

Cheers,

R.
It's alright. We forgive you.

If you think the EVF on the EM5 is anything but crystal clear---read the reviews so far on the EM1---This is the dividing line--certainly

It may be time to redo your test with a 16 mp Panasonic.

And when he does, he should substitute a D800 for the D700 just to keep current technology on both sides of the test.

When they get the finders right, quite possibly. But even the best electronic finders at the moment are blurry and jerky compared with optical finders. They're getting better but they ain't quite there yet.

Cheers,

I disagree. I have several Sony cameras with oled electronic viewfinders. I prefer these viewfinders to optical viewfinders. I do not find them blurry or jerky. The electronic viewfinder gives me much more information then any optical viewfinder could.
I especially like that a good electronic viewfinder will show me where in the photo I am loosing detail due to under or overexposure. No optical viewfinder can do that.

Also for me the EVF and the Lcd screen more represent what the scene will look like on a computer monitor or even a print.
