Last night my friends' apartment was broken into. The place was systematically ransacked.
Among items taken were Sharon's laptop, jewellery and an amount of cash, a flat screen TV and DVD player.
John's coin collection and two small paintings were taken and although his comprehensive Canon camera gear had been shaken out of the bag, to his relief nothing at all was missing.
Jim though, was devastated that his aging and battered Nikon D40 with kit lens was gone along with the dog eared instruction booklet.
Police said it was clearly the work of professionals.

Is there something I'm missing about this?
How am I supposed to react?
I live in an area where mostly people don't steal from each other...a pretty small town.
I guess I'm sort of stumped on why you posted this.

His point is that the thieves preferred Nikon over Canon.
The police should be looking for a Nikon fanboy. LOL.

Professional thieves, or professional photographers? Some here may say that there is no difference. After the recent discussion of "Faustographer", this appears to be a valid thought.
Let them come to my place. I would love to submit a claim on my Fe-2

Yes, the thief needed it to finish the lamp he's been working on!!
SS
Edit: and the cops should be looking for someone between 60 and 70 years old!
They take the DVD player but leave the extensive Canon camera gear behind? That doesn't sound like professional thieves to me. A true pro knows that a second hand DVD player has far less resale value than a camera with lenses.
Or perhaps for some reason they panicked and took off without completing the job.

or they realized that a canon owners would have registered the camera and equipment's serial numbers with the manufacturers as well as already uploaded the camera information to sites like
http://www.stolencamerafinder.com/ and trying to resell this equipment would only have lead to their speedy arrest.
Canon people tend to be on the ball and know the value of their equipment, thus they take steps to foil would be thieves before they make a play for their belongings. Nikon owners tend to wait for thieves so they can use the insurance money to purchase replacement CANON equipment. :)

LOL. Actually, it must have been professional photographers who knew the value of camera equipment.

Real professional thieves know quite well where to dump their booty that have a "no questions asked" policy. And I don't think all that many buyers on Ebay, Amazon, etc. actually go through the trouble to research the items they purchased to discover if any of them are listed as stolen.
As for Canon owners being significantly more aware of the value of their equipment than Nikon owners... well, I have my doubts!
Does anyone else think that W/R is just pulling our collective legs.....again?
Yeesh, leave a whole kit of brand new canon gear and take an aged Nikon....
