I have a Black Rapid sling which I like but do not like having it attached to the tripod hole on my full frame camera. I saw couple people who had an adaptor that allowed attachment of Black Rapid sling via a normal camera strap attachment point instead of the tripod position. They bought it at their local small camera store. Does anyone know where it can be found online?

Its really too bad we don't have a "local camera store".

I'm mot familiar enough with the Black Rapid gear to say for sure. But if the BR uses similar (type and size) connectors as the OpTech double sling, you can get those connectors via the OpTech website and many online distributers. Check the OpTech site and see whether these connecters will work with the BR. If they do, they're inexpensive.

I love my Black Rapid, ESPECIALLY on field trips, but IzzyKap is right; the tripod hole can be inconvenient in some situations.

As mentioned, the OpTech accessory straps have been used for a connection to your Black Rapid strap. I also did not like the fact that a camera with lens was hanging from a screw hole in bottom of camera.

I don't feel secure having a relatively heavy full frame Canon attached to the tripod position and also having to unscrew the BR connection every time that I want to use a tripod. To get over my second objection above, I've purchased a CarrySpeed sling strap which allows for the camera to be placed on a tripod even with this strap still connected. However, I don't think that the tripod hole was meant to be used as a single point attachment for a camera while walking around all day. I did see pictures of cameras that were destroyed by this and hence my apprehension. I also have the OpTech one but would refer BR if I found an adaptor that would allow its attachment to camera's regular attachment point.

Having used them for years, ive never had one fail. D3 and 600mm F4, no problem. D2xs and 400mm F4, no problem. D700, 80-400mm VR, no problem. A D3 + 600mm F4 just shy of 14 pounds.

You should give that tripod mount more credit than you do. Ir you are really worried, get some gear insurance. Body Lugs can fail if you feel the tripod mount will fail.

I believe that you will find that all those cameras that were damaged via the tripod socket, were plastic framed.
Anything with a full metal frame works fine being carried that way.
The Black Rapids, Spiders and all their copy-cats connect there. They are all still selling them. If it didn't work or damaged cameras, they wouldn't have a market. I know a number of other working pro's that use those carriers with no problems. As do I.

If you are using a fairly long L lens, the tripod mount for the lens provides an alternative to the 1/4: 20 screw hole in the camera body or grip.

I have just finished 101 days overland Istanbul to Beijing and have had my camera (5dmk111 with 24-105 lens) AND USED EVERY DAY WITH NOT A PROBLEM WHILST ATTACHED AT THE TRIPOD MOUNT, i ALSO HAD THE WRIST GRIP AS WELL AND FOUND THAT WHILST WALKING AROUND THERE WAS NEVER A PROBLEM (IN FACT FELT QUITE SECURE) oops caps lock on :-) I have also a quick connect plate for tripod mount as well fitted and never a moments worry about stress on the camera body
Go to odysseyoverland.com.uk and check the blog Istanbul to Beijing 2013 and see the results

Can't we just use 'tripod mount'. Even 'tripod socket' maybe.

Anyways. Go to Amazon to buy. They got everything. Including customer reviews that can tell you more than any manufacturer.

I was nervous about using the Blackrapid in the tripod socket of my D3. Thanks for testing it for me. :D The longest lens I shoot on it now is the 70-300 zoom. That's nothing compared to the weight you were lugging on it.

I have a similar set up and the only problem I've encountered is to be careful that the screw stays tight. I have heard of them coming unscrewed and the camera/lens hitting the ground.
