I'm brand new to Dslr cameras and saw a great deal on the Canon EOS Rebel T3 but I have no idea whether it is a fair, good, or great camera. I know the Canon is a good name brand but back in my old 35mm days I used either a Nikon or Minolta. Anyone have any input that would be useful I would appreciate it. PS: I already purchased the camera so hopefully you won't tear it down too much. ;)

No disrespect but if you have already purchased it there is little point in asking if it is any good, is there

Well, you're probably right. but I was hoping to get some tips and or feedback about the camera. Thanks for responding.

Thom

Most folks look for feedback before they buy something, not after.

To answer your question, its a capable camera. You did not buy a lemon.

Thank you again. Good to know I didn't get a lemon. I realize I put the cart before the horse but I was afraid I would lose the deal if I waited for feedback that I was't sure I would get anyway. I know Canon has a good name so I felt relatively safe buying it without the feedback.
Regards,
Thom

Hi Thom, welcome to UHH! I have the T3i and before that, had the Rebel XT for nearly 5 years. Love 'em both, though the T3i hasn't gotten much use since I bought a super-zoom (Canon SX-50) in May :)

What lens/es do you have? The 18-55 mm came with my T3i and I had the 55-250 mm already.

Are you familiar with aperture, shutter speed and ISO? I'm not sure about the differences between the T3 and the T3i, but you're welcome to PM me with any questions. I don't think you'll have buyer's remorse!

Looks like you buy cameras on impulse, if you want to learn about the Canon T3i, go to a book store and buy a book on the T3i. The book will give you more info about that camera than you will get out of your owners manual.

Hi, you have a great camera, I have the Canon 550D ( called that in NZ), equal to the T2i, I think the only difference is yours has the flip out lens. You will enjoy this so much, and a suggestion, take some photos every day, literally rain or shine. Play with the settings, and post some here. Most of all, enjoy what you do with it. Cheers, Nancy J, and even if you have bought it, still good to get feedback.( I think you have made an excellent choice)

Oops. I read T3i, and you have the T3, a little different to the one I have, still think you made a very good choice. Cheers, Nancy

Congrat's. I was in a similar situation 3 years ago (budget restraints & a Canon offer) & bought the Canon 400d (Rebel) & was more than pleased with the kit lense (EFS 18-55mm) results. On reading UHH information & advise I have upgraded my glass. Pin sharp. In future my investments will be in lenses. Enjoy Kitcar

Thom, I had used Canon SLR's (film type) for years, my first digital camera was a Canon point and shoot. When I decided to get into digital SLR, I saw an ad like you and bought the Canon T3 at a good price. I think it is a good choice for an entry level DSLR. I have since upgraded to a Canon T4i which has more features and more MP, and the EF-S 18-135 IS STM lens which I love. I get a lot of help by going to the Canon and B&H photo websites and reading the reviews of different products. You can find a lot of information there. Good luck.

The Canon T3 is a very capable camera. Try dpreview.com to see if they have a review of the camera.

You will not be disappointed with the t31 .I had one before going to the d7100.
Learn the camera well and you will have really good photos.

I gave mine to my son when I got the Nikon 7100....Im a Nikon user....that being said the t31 is a very good camera to use
you will not be sorry.

(coming from a Nikonian that says a lot)

I have a T3i and it does the job well. I think your lens choices will be more important than the camera. But there is nothing wrong with your choice and a lot right with it. Enjoy! Oh, and it will endure much. I tripped and fell on mine. The lens took the hit but the camera was fine!
