And, to complete the yuppie picture, he publicly admits seldom using a local photo store where all his questions could most likely be answered. Rather spending his time and money in a big box store where the clerks are hard-put to spell "cat" and absolutely cannot make change if the power goes out and the cash registers don't work.

My suggestion to this poster is this: Cut all the new Ilford papers in half and use them for note pads. Probably start a new trend, and it will go a long way to diffusing the idea that you're an idiot created by your post above.

Look no one needs this kind of snark when they ask a simple question. It his economic decision not yours and not America's. If you cannot bring yourself to make a civil reply then don't post.

To the OP: I have found Red River Paper to be of very high quality and significantly less expensive then other premium photographic papers. I have also had good service from them.

Who ever said I was perfectly capable of "blowing hundreds of dollars on brand name gadgetry"? My comment about the local photo store, I believe is justified in that their prices are significantly higher than places like B+H or, as my brother calls them, Worst Buy. One example: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/768877-REG/Nissin_ND866MKII_S_Di866_Mark_II_Flash.html vs http://www.cccamera.com/spec_sheet.html?catalog[name]=Nissin-Di866-Mark-II-Flashgun-for-Sony-Flashes-and-speedlights&catalog[product_guids][0]=693650 (an $80 difference for the same exact product!). A specific monopod is also 16.89 at B+H while priced at $29.99 at my local photo store. Being on unemployment at the time, until school starts next month (I drive a bus) I also think I have a right to worry about nickles and dimes. Some people on the hog have lenses that alone cost more then my gross income form last year. All I asked about in my OP were opinions on the quality of a company's product, not an analysis of political or economic situations.

I just bought my first package of ultra premium photo paper, a package of 25 Ilford Galarie Prestige Smooth Gloss. It cost me $19.99 plus tax at my local specialty camera store (which I hardly ever go to). The paper is a lot thicker than anything I've used before, but the one pic I've printed with it (took literally about 15 minutes on my el cheapo Epson NX110 at the "Best Photo" quality setting) looks pretty good, but I'm not sure if it's worth almost $1/sheet. They had 100 sheet packages for around $55, but I'm not willing to buy in bulk if I've never used a product before - besides, the store may be ripping me off. That's why I'm asking all you experts on the hog. What makes a bigger difference? High end paper or a high end printer? A nice Canon 900 (9000?) I saw there cost $300 on sale.

I buy my paper from Red River Paper Co. and have never been dis-appointed in any of it. I bought a sample box of 8X10 that contains glossy, matte, semi-gloss, and metallic and it's a good representation of all their papers. Small or large quantities.

Forgot to mention, I use a Canon Pro 9000 printer and couldn't be happier with my prints.

I use a lot of Red River products myself. If you search back you will see that I asked the folks here if they used Red River and what they thought about it. I think they provide a good product for a good price. Most here will not be as snarky as the above poster. Many of the questions asked here have been asked multiple times in the past but the people on this site will take the time to answer again and again.

In the meantime, no doubt remains as to the social skills and emotional maturity of johnbee418. Man, that was just rude.

I always get the 100 packs of paper. I also only use epson inks and paper. It just seems to profile better. Epson has sales once in a while as does BH and they always help. I live in a small town so no camera shops that have any thing to do with printing.I look at printing like tying flys , by the time you get all the materials you need and the gear to do it, you could buy them and save money. But I like the satisfaction of doing things my self and sometimes it's nicer than the purchased product and always more rewarding.

I'm amazed at some of the rude folks on this forum. Never been on a forum before . But why say anything if you can't be polite. Maybe it's the hiding behind a keyboard thing.

Please don't have a personal squabble on my thread people (or anyone else's for that matter). IMHO, PMs are better for that sort of thing. Just because this forum is called 'Ugly' Hedgehog doesn't mean that should be our emotional disposition.
