Joe, you captured the colors and pose perfectly, but what I like best is the reflection in the convex surface of the eye, which tells us that the bird is alive. I think the only way to tell the gender of the bird is to dissect it. Yep, I'm heading for cover!

Thanks Joe. I looked up your other bird photos on your website and was delighted with them. How do you get such wonderful sharpness? Is your 300mm telephoto lens an "L" series one?

Thank you very much. I'm glad you liked them.
The sharpness comes from learning good technique.
All of my lenses are "L" series lenses.
