i like macro photography and shooting things like this fellow but he sure is big and strange looking - anyone know what offical title to this creature is - i am currently in north west alabama in a small town and have seen a lot of these guys

thanks jan i shot him this afternoon on some leaves just outside the door- he is about 2. 5 inches long - i wasnt aware they got that big

thank you dear. i do enjoy macro it is an entirely different world once you start getting out and delving into the insect world you will find a lot of good shots.

i don't know that is why i only took the one shot and pulled back to leave him alone- I like shooting this sort of subject but i dont want a run in - i have been stung twice since I really began to pursue the insect world-
