It's a beautiful cat. Myself, I like what you did with it. You can find closeups of lions, tigers, etc online in any search engine all day. What makes this one unique is your own artistic touch to it.

There was a debate about artistic photo editing versus going with a "clean" shot where a slight sharpening is "acceptable", and Sinatraman said it best when he said that is why it's art, it is subject to the one making it. (I am paraphrazing his words grossly I am sure, but I don't think I am losing what he meant.)

I am one who loves to do artistic effects to pictures and I will blend several images into a collage with a single theme that recieves it's complement from the other images.

Beauty as well as art is in the eye of the beholder.

Looking at the image again, it looks like you had a texture selected when you went to add a background layer. I have mistakenly left the texture box checked in Paintshop Pro, and done simular things, and sometimes it would give me a nice suprize the likes of your photo, and other times it made a mess of it. Check to see if your texture in your flood fill is checked. That might be how you did it. This way you will know how to do that when you want, and how to deselect that feature if you don't.

It's really nicely done, and it makes the lion look like it's been put on a canvas.

You have turned an ordinary photograph into a piece of ART. I like it very much. Some purists may not, but variety is the spice of life. Very good work.

This was the topic of debate at the mytbcc, camera club. When is it a photo and when a modified. All get some mod before printing and entering. HOWEVER, it was almost universal that saturation and sharpening beyond norm is the trend and ART is the norm because we can all create symphonies with plugins.

I believe that each photograph will tell the photographer what will make it an exciting, sometimes awe inspiring finished product. How grand it is that we now have the capability to experiment with filters, setting, textures, overlays etc. It all serves to stimulate our creative side. I am so glad you took the step to play around, intentionally or not, to produce a finished product such as the lion. It would make a fabulous painting on stretched canvas. Job well done!

Yep, DB, some of my photos are Sweet, some Evil and it is the photo that leads the way.
