Hi everyone. I am considering buying this lens for my Pentax k30.

Sigma 50mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens.

I know it's not the best macro lens, but I am working within a certain budget and after reading about it,I thought I would ask my fellow Hoggers who have used it.

If anyone has any opinions on it,I would appreciate your input.
Thank you
Annie
I am trying to attach the article on amazon but cannot figure out how to do it.[/quote

Since you shoot Pentax, like Nikon, they have not changed their mount since God knows exactly when. I say this because I use 4 different older manual focus macro lenses from 55 to 135mm. Now on my Nikon D70s, I have to shoot entirely in manual (metering as well) but it isn't hard. With my D300, I can meter in aperture or manual mode so all I have to do is focus manually. I don't know if your camera will meter with the older manual focus lenses (btw, manual focus is recommended for life size images) but if it does, you can get a quality , older manual focus macro lens & save some $$$...

Hi everyone. Hi Annie,
I'm looking for a good macro at a good price too but after researching it seems the Sigma 105 macro is the best choice!
Worth waiting and saving for.
Another option which I haven't tried yet is to get a reversing ring to fit your lens, eg 58mm etc and attach it to your camera back to front. I'm waiting for a ring to try it on my 50mm Canon f1.4 lens.
Best thing is to take your camera plus a flower etc to the shops and ask to try out the various lenses. Look at the results on your computer and then decide. Most camera shops will let you do that. Some lenses which get a great write up may just be too heavy.
Good luck. I hope you end up very happy with your final choice.
Cecilia
