Used about two or three stops down from maximum aperture, I feel you ought to match if not surpass these photos (believe it or not -- though the purists out there will yell blue murder and quote all sorts of statistics to challenge this statement: I'm talking practical, out-in-the-field results). It is an excellent lens -- provided you get a good copy and once you get the hang to extracting the best from it. I am very pleased with mine.

These shots are magnificent and may inspire me to get a "real" camera! I'm a birder and I use a Canon powershot sx260. Can you tell me what model Nikon you have?
