Instead of the shading I think I would just get in much closer or crop the photo closer to the cats. They are so cute, you captured them nicely. Keep shooting these adorable pets.

Hey Bonnie! I am a cat person too and also have a dark tabby and a calico and like Kathy would have preferred this with a closer crop and no vignette. It is always fun to try out all the filters and stuff on photoshop and similar but most of the effects are better when used with a light touch rather than with a 'oh look what I've found on my new software'. And yes, we have all done it :0) And Babycat, my calico is sprawled across my lap as I write this so if there are any typos just blame the darned cat.

Babycat just doesn't want Ugly Hedgehog to get all the attention. Stop and pet her for awhile too. Haha!!!

Hi Bonnie S...love your cats. The composition is cute! I'm not sure on the vignetting though. We have a couple in the family and it's fun to capture each of their personalities. I agree with KathyinNH and Cornishpete on getting a little closer with them...get those "catch lights" in their eyes. I attached one of my favs of "Woody"...our 11 year old. We call him grandpa now. Keep up the great work! Let's see some more!

Bonnie S. I like your shot. Border vignetting probably should follow the same guide lines as other darkening of the edges. If it strikes you as being there, it is too much. Some say that it should do it's job of emphasis, but not be noticable. Opinions vary.

After seeing these great photos, I could not help but post my latest one of Target. He is a new commer to the pride of 11 cats. I was putting my mower away when I looked up and to my surprise there was Target all framed in and ready to shoot. Fortunately, I had my camera on my side.

I think the vignette will work if you lighten it a little (And try the crop suggestion, too - great capture ! NOT a cat person)

I don't try to do much in door pics because I don't really care for that "glow" in the eyes that flash causes. But if you take in doorpics you might want to use as much natural light as possible & avoid flash. I've read about using candle light along with another source of light to produce a nice warm effect & prevent redeye equivalent in cats. I 'm going to try it & see what happens. If your cats are anything like mine it might be a good way to start a fire without the fire place. This is one of my mothers babies taken in doors. Don't you just love cats natural ability to get comfy?

cameranaut: your cat looks JUST like my Baxter! LOL He does "kitty yoga" three times a day faithfully, and yet he STILL sports a buddha-belly!

Bonnie: LOVE the way they are embracing each other!
Very neat shot!

I agree about the cropping though... at least to the point of getting rid of that heat-pump unit... which would actually move the kitties a little more off-center, nicely (I think).

Huddy: Literally cat on a (hot?) tin roof!?
Adorable! (and what a smile!)

That's about as perfect a kitty-face shot as I've seen, especially with a buff-colored kitty!

All the comments above are really good. Very sweet photo. With regard to cropping, don't be afraid to crop part of the cat out of the picture...it will provide a little more interest.
