I took this shot of my grandson about a year ago and am unhappy with the mottled look of his cheeks and chin. There are a couple of spots around the nostrils that I want to clean up too. What software do you recommend to enhance skin tones like this? Thanks for any help.

Photoshop elements, then use the clone tool.

Photoshop Elements is a good one.

And there are tutorials on youtube about how to get rid of mottled skin...just search "Photoshop elements skin tone" or something....you'll get it.

this MIGHT be one...I didn't watch it

You might also consider eliminating the "red eye" with PSE or most other photo editors (Gimp, PhotoShop, etc.) ;-)

Use a red skin remover action (like this one from coffee shop blog http://www.thecoffeeshopblog.com/2010/08/coffeeshop-skin-redness-relief-action.html)

paint over the redness with a white brush, adjust opacity to taste, and flatten. use the eye dropper tool and select a color of the skin you would like to copy. Add a new blank layer from the adjustments panel, paint over skin with the sample color at a opacity of around 10 percent (you won't see much of a difference but it will even things out nicely).

thanks everyone. I appreciate all the suggestions. I'll do my best but I'm a beginner with PE and don't have Lightroom. I've been doing all my post with Aperture and that program is lacking in the facial department.

You're absolutely right. The red eye has to go.

Important... no matter which software program you use be very sure to make a copy by going to Layers and Duplicate then lock the original before doing the changes to your duplicate photo. I also close the eye icon so original doesn't show when I make changes.

My choice would be OneOnOne Perfect portrait. You can download a free 30 day trial. It amazingly selects the faces in your picture and all you do is move a few sliders to make changes to your taste. Photoshop will do the same job but is time consuming...perfect portrait almost does it by itself.

Corel PaintShop Pro (any version) has a makeover tool that is very good for evening out complexion issues. Also, cloning tools on most any photo editor will do the job but it will require a little more work.

How's this? Just a little tweak in Portrait Professional.

Thought I would throw my take at post processing your photo, I hope you don't mind. I had PS CS5 up and running. I can't really tell you the process since most of it was done by actions that I created a while ago.

Enjoy
