An interview with wowbmw

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been seriously into photography since officially retiring from a 30 year career in civil service( almost 5 years ago.) Got started because the tools made sense for how I see the world.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I've been a student and regularly seek mentors since I've come to realize the joy of being a life long student.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
It is common for me to look inward when I allow the time it takes to slow down and look around the scene for what is there. It seems natural for me to see the world in thirds. I was waiting for a scene that others said would be forth coming when I saw this instead. It felt right, I was ready and I made the image.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
I used a canon 7D with a 70-200 L lens while waiting for the light to make another shot I had in mind. Looking through the view finder, I saw this image and hit the shutter remote.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
No way would I change this. The entire experience was part of the learning process of "seeing".

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
Anything that would allow me the freedom of expressing what I see.

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
As a serious amateur about 3 years. I found it a good way to get closer with my Higher Power.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Only training has come from the people on this site and others like it. Sunrise-Sunset-Landscapes-All God's Creations

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
Always looking for Gods Magic and this is what He gave me on that morning.

An interview with scruffyherbert

Hi, very pleased to have won the weekly challenge. A complete surprise. I've answered the questions below for you:

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been taking an active interest in photography for 2-3 years now. Before that I was just a general happy snapper who's photos managed to be always slanted or of people with missing heads and feet, that type of shot. I got a decent Fuji compact and started messing about with settings and realised that there was a lot more the camera is capable of. Taking a few macros of flowers is what initially started the photography bug.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
I've had absolutely no training at all. I've basically taught myself through books, websites and forums such as UH. I haven't yet decided on a definitive area of photography that interests me most but I tend to lean more towards "things" when I'm out and about. I love certain forms of graffiti but also insects in more unusual settings (if possible). I just love the fact photography has re-opened my eyes to the every day world around me and use that as a basis for photos. I have learnt to always have my camera with me.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
I took this winning shot while sitting in a field through work. I work for an agricultural company so spend a lot of the year outside. While on a break I had a look along the hedgerow for an unsuspecting "model". I spotted this particular snail on the twig so thought "you'll do". I had to move a bit of unwanted clutter from around it and get at a bit of a tight angle, but used the field as the background. I thought it gave a nice feel. Personally I liked the colour contrast and the textures.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
The only equipment I used was my trusty Fuji HS10. I'm on a seriously tight budget so need to maximise my camera fully before I even entertain advancing or buying extra equipment. I believe the equipment is only as good as the person using it. I like the fact for example Seasick Steve can produce great music with 2 strings on a guitar. I see it as an extra challenge to try and get good shots from a good but not bank account breaking camera. Hope that makes sense.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
To be honest I don't think I would change anything else with the shot. Maybe a little something extra in the area in the bottom left but that would be all.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
If I couldn't do photography then maybe making usable things from what's available for "free" from nature. Picture frames, framed mirrors from driftwood. That type of thing. I suppose I'm a bit of an Eco/hippy type................that and being skint most of the time

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
The only place I have any other photos is on viewbug.com I use the same user name if anyone is interested. I'd like to set up my own site for my photos but I still feel I need a bigger portfolio as such and I suppose I'm a bit nervous about doing it.

An interview with fotkaman

1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
Since childhood, my father was an excellent amateur photographer.

2) Have you had any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
Not a formal training, no. I love a journalistic or documentary photography the most.

3) What inspired you to take your winning shot?
The presence of the magnificent bird.

4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup?
Canon 50D, Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM at 300mm, f/5.6, 1/750s, ISO 100, aperture priority, sunny-day white balance.

5) Would you change anything if you could do it again?
No.

6) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
I sing in an amateur choir, play keyboards and guitar.

7) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
My website is presently under construction.
