I'm not sure what kind of bug this is, but someone told me it was a cicada, it was about 2 inches long...and had big stabber claws on the front..yuck..

Down south we call them bugs katydids 'cause that's what the noise they make sounds like. Good shots! I like the variety and once again, you have 'em all looking just about right. Did that ol' car have two motors, one in front and one in back? Sort of looks like it. That's an old Dodge pickup, about a 1940 model. Those are so rare I can't figure out why anyone would want to use it for a race car.

The pick up didn't have 2 motors, what you are seeing behind the truck is a PURPLE motorcycle which I wish I could have said was mine! I love purple. But I don't think I could have held it up with my short legs when I'd come to a stop! Thanks for the comments Gessman. As much as I hated to get that close to that bug, I thought the picture did turn out well. I hear Katydids are harmless at least.

They're called cicadas, this time of year you'll see the outer shell as they shed them

I enjoyed seeing your photo of the cicada. I love listening to the high pitch vocal sounds of the cicadas during mating season. Between them and tree frogs/bull frogs, the air is full of chattering gossip. The cicadas are an interesting phenomenon - they come around every 13 years after living underground.

Sorry not to comment on your other photos. The raccoon cubs are adorable. I've had visitors coming into the house and caught a few photos. One night there was a family of about 8 enjoying dinner on the back porch. They and cats seems to have a special relationship and they go about their own business, tolerating each other. Dogs, well that's a different story...

What an interesting old pick-up truck. I love old models of cars and pick-ups, the good ole days.

Great shot of an ugly bug! LOL...The raccoon, well too cute, brought a smile to my face. Don't know the first thing about old cars, but you did it justice!

Yep, same thing I heard about those bugs. I can't speak for the raccoon family but the katydids usually aren't very dangerous when they're in that phase of life. In fact, in survival training in the military they taught us to harvest those when we could in order to add a little fiber to out diet. They have a nice crunchy texture. I do remember your love of purple although this past week has been sort of a blur in this forum what with the multiplicity of posts and comments and then more posts. It's sort of hard to keep up. Not that I would ever think of being nosey, but just how short ARE your legs that they won't reach the ground? I'm short too but my legs reach the ground just fine.

Haha, well, I'm 5 ft tall (or short as it may seem). But you know, being short has never really bothered me I guess. Sometimes I use it to my advantage! haha I get my kids to reach stuff for me on the second shelf or higher...well if they are ever around. I've learned to use a long butcher knife to stab and reach things out of my grasp. So far I've never got bonked in the head or stabbed myself. So all is good! :)

Thanks Tracy. I'm not into bugs or old cars either...or raccoons for that matter, but I figured someone might like them!

Penny, great photos as always from you. I work at the creative arts center here on the campus and we have a small court yard in the back with a fountain which has goldfish in it. Unfortunately the raccoons, cute as they are, view it as their buffet. Fortunately someone keeps bringing us more fish.

Thanks Condor. I don't even let my toy poodle out at night. The coons are bigger than she is. I just don't want to take th chance. Our friends lost a cat in a coon fight. And that cat was a 23 lb Himilayan (not sure on the spelling of those cats) but the coons got the best of it.
