Weather has been bad of late so it's been hard to get outside. Someone once said to me that smoking was bad for me, decided to do it anyway.

All are excellent, but your blue image #3 is particularly attractive to me.

Thank you. I am very happy to share my settings with you.
Equipment and environment.

Canon 7D, Canon 50mm 1.4 lens (so at 80mm with 1.6 crop sensor), tripod, remote cable release, black card background, (for the 1st picture only - Speedlite 430 exII - off camera tethered ETTL setup), 2 burning incense sticks. Darkened room. A tip for the incense, keep the stick(s) burning for about 5 - 10 seconds once they are lit, seems to produce better smoke.

1st picture was taken at 1/80 F1.8 with high ISO of 1000. The flash was setup to the side and slightly behind the smoke. With this setup I could not seem to get the density of smoke that I desired so for all the other pictures I actually changed the location of shooting. I still used a darkened environment however I managed to get a sliver of sunlight falling behind and
to the side of the smoke. Using this constant light seemed to increase the appearance of density. All of the other shots were taken at 1/125 F2.8 ISO 1000. I probably could have come down on the ISO slightly cutting out some of the noise.

I would definitely recommend a constant light unless you are highly skilled with a flash (which I am not - yet) :)

Have fun. Cheers
