Home - and on leave as of 12 noon today. It's starting to feel just great - after just over 2 hectic months at sea. Didn't have much time to use my D5100 but will post a few "sunsets at sea" pics plus one or two shots of Table Mountain (Capetown) soon.
Danny J.
In which city do you line on St. Helena Island? What type of ship at sea?
Hi Nikonian72
St. Helena is a small island; (population currently around 4,300). There are no cities, the capitol of the island is Jamestown. I work on a small passenger cargo ship - named the RMS St. Helena; (RMS standing for Royal Mail Ship) - perhaps the last of it's kind in service. It was built specifically to serve St. Helena; to get people & supplies on off the island as we, as yet do not have an airport, . . though construction on one has commenced - and will [hopefully be finished by 2016. Will post a few photos soon.
Regards,
Danny J.
Danny, welcome back to tera-firma. Happy shooting!
Hi Danny, you must be the most isolated member of UHH! We'll have to start a topic and see if you are. Have you got any shots of life on board RMS St. Helena? I'm sure they'd make a great subject  Post soon :)
That is where Napoleon was exiled too, me thinks.
I do agree, you are the most remote UH member.
Welcome to the Hog!

Elba
"Able was I ere I saw Elba." Famous palindrome referring to Napoleopn's exile there.
Yes, he was exiled to St. Helena, after being exiled to Elba. A double exile. What a guy!
Hello Danny. I had never heard of St. Helena so did an internet search for info. St. Helena really has a very long and interesting history. I'm looking forward to more of your photo's from your Island. UHH is full of people from places I'll never get to visit so I always enjoy seeing photo's from around our globe. TNmike
I would love to see Table Mountain from sea.
St Helena was a big part of one of Clive Cussler's books can not remember the title because I have read so many of them.
I think you might be right Jerry I have it here somewhere one of my favorite authors

I used to buy them, but they were taking up space I could be using for camera equipment, so I donated them to the library. Then I started borrowing new ones from the library. I enjoyed reading them. They were amusing and entertaining, and I always waited for Cussler, like Alfred Hitchcock, to make a brief appearance.

It is the best place to see this amazing mountain range from. If it works, the attached image was taken at dawn with a steam-power Nikon F in 1972

It's obvious how it got that name. I had never heard of it before.
