This year showrooms will start appearing at some exchanges and purchases can be done online at AAFES.

The good news for many means no sales tax.

The bad news is the 10% discount will no longer apply to military personnel on major appliances, but will be replaced with a whopping 1% discount instead.

This article appeared in the Military.Com News today. The link is not functioning, so I didn't include it.

I don't understand your question. Do you use AAFES online? The appliances will be available on that sight.

I have heard nothing regarding the 10% that Lowes has been offering for several years.

You didn't mention Lowes. From your post I thought the 10% came from the AAFES.

Lowes was a separate paragraph essentially stating that Lowes used to offer 10% military discounts as did Home Depot. If they still offer 10%, that makes them cheaper than Home Depot. Hopefully that is more clear.

Are you eligible for AAFES?

3rd paragraph. It doesn't mention Lowe's. No, my Dad was. 7 1/2 years active duty just before and after the war. He finished his 20 in the AF Reserves. There were four brothers in Dad's family. All four served in WWII. One flew 33 missions in B17's as a radioman. Another fought in the Philippines. All came home safe and sound, PTL. Uncle Frank, front left was the radioman. Uncle Louis, front right, the youngster, was in the Philippines. When I was about 11 he gave me a Japanese bayonet.

Here's a good photo of the four during the war. My Dad is back left.

I get a 10% discount at Home Depot all the time here in NYC. It looks to me like the deal through AAFES amounts to the same thing. NYC tax is 8.875%. That plus a 1% discount comes out to just about the same as going directly to Home Depot. And yes, I am qualified to shop at AAFES.

According to the report, the 10% military discount on major appliances is being discontinued at Home Depot stores. That's why I mentioned that Lowes may be an alternative for some.

There is no military discount at either store if the item is on sale. But I did save $130 on a new dishwasher at Lowes.

That 10% discount on major appliances was discontinued here in Texas for a few years now. Lowe's still offers a 10% discount with the card you sign up for online.

There are several stores that offer discounts for veterans by signing up on line. There are a few companies that verify eligibility for these discounts for retail chains, usually within a minute or so. Lowes uses this service.

I get articles daily from Military.com. (Military news and headlines.)

AAFES will often price-match the same items (IF AAFES has them) with brick & mortar stores - plus a few on-line stores (Amazon, WalMart, etc). And - there is no tax @ AAFES. Compare and make your best choice.
