After watching videos of Adobe Generative Fill AI in Adobe Beta Firefly, it seems that will cause a serious damage to photography as we know it today.

Only a problem for staunch realists.

People have superimposed things for years. This just makes it so much easier.

The cows have already left the barn on this issue. Generative AI applications such as StableDiffusion, MidJourney, Dall-E, and many more are already becoming ubiquitous. The advantage that Adobe's version provides in it's incorporated into Photoshop layers and the training set only used Adobe Stock, which steers clear of a lot of the copyright infringement issues the other apps are facing.

Adobe is just a slower entry into the generative AI fray.

Yes, it does look amazing but is also worrisome. It's too powerful and too easy. Swapping skies is one thing but this is another matter. I have nothing against post processing and use it, including PS, myself. But this is beyond post processing. Photographer will be able to take and average or even sub average image and make it into a super image using AI. I think that photography will be changed tremendously.

And why is that a problem?
Must the super image be acquired in the camera, without any modifications?
Isn't the whole point of editing to improve the image?
Or must it be done with ingredients at hand, not contrived ingredients.
Or, no modifications at all.

And will you still see no problem if your wife or a coworker uses this to put you in the bed of a local prostitute? The opportunities, I would even say invitation, to malicious misuse are overwhelming. And other posters are right, the genie is out of the bottle and we can't put it back.

They can do that now, just not as easily.

I'm guessing we won't need such an extensive collection of clip art or other people's work. Say goodbye to all the outlining and sizing and placing items from other photos. Sounds good to me. I'm enjoying people's creativity. Now I need to really push my brain to be more creative.
