Babies doing well. It looks like they will abandon the nest soon with one egg left unhatched. 75% hatch rate isn't too bad!

Thanks, Jim! Yes it is! We've been getting afternoon downpours the last two days and the nest is in a cavity that collects water. The babies have been sheltering under Mom/Dad but sitting in water so I was concerned. But, up and at it again this morning!! Tough little guys! Glad you liked them!

Such a strange reproductive habit to have your nest and eggs in plain sight, on the ground, in easy access by every predator in the neighborhood. Nice shots of that phenomenon.

It does seem strange. But they very vigorously distract anyone from their nest by fluttering their wings and scurrying around to attract attention to themselves and away from the nest! And they get very close to intruders if they have to. I suspect the nest and hatchlings have little to no scent also.

Thanks, Ken! Yeah, me to. But I suspect, nature being what it is, that there won't be 100% survival rate.
