It looks like a R5 MII will not be coming anytime soon.
But it looks like the current R5 is still viable.
Or perhaps Canon is aware that M(x) is not always needed but just a firmware update to an existing camera.

This goes against the trend of some other manufacturers of making a M(x) where the M(x) looks to just be a firmware update.
Yes, there are times a M(x) is called for like the R6 and R6 MII because there was a totally new sensor put in among other things.

Canon leads by continuing to deliver innovation to their existing customers, others release mark IIs and soak their customers.

Excuse me. What would you call the Canon EOS R6 Mark II? Is that soaking it's customers?

LOL

Consider the Z6 vs Z6 II, two 24MP mirrorless cameras. Then, compare the EOS R6 vs R6 II, where are clear differences, benefits, and tangible upgrades:

40 FPS silent electronic shutter, up from 20 FPS in the R6.

24 MP, up from 20 MP in the R6.

More battery life; now rated 450 shots compared to the old R6 which was rated 380 shots, both with the finder in the power-saving mode.

Redesigned power switch and location.

New "Multi Shoe" direct-digital hot shoe with connections for audio and more.

Flicker synchronization now works at much higher frequencies than 120 Hz to work with other kinds of higher-frequency lights.

Movies can have shutter speeds up to 1/8,000, up from 1/4,000 in the R6.

Video clips can run as long as 6 hours, up from just 30 minutes in the R6.

Lens breathing compensation option for video.

Adds 5 GHz IEEE 802.11a/ac bands (old R6 only had 2.4 GHz).

Bluetooth 5.0, up from 4.2 in the old R6.

Movie autofocus rated one stop less sensitive: LV -4 ~ +21 rather than the LV -5 ~ +20 of the R6.

See chg canon.
The R6 MII is a huge upgrade where the Sony a7r4 and five are the same sensor etc.
A firmware upgrade is all the 4 needed.

The processor in any current camera is only capable up to a certain level. You can add just so many updates before all the current processing power is used up. Thus a MK II or new designation model may be necessary because the have also upgraded the processor

The processor is the latest one. That is still allowing many updates across the system.

Dang, now you've given me GAS. Just when I was really thinking my R6 would be the last one I would buy.

It is the last one, well, as long as 20MP is enough resolution ...

So far it's performed as I expected, so I'll keep it for some time. Newest, greatest, better isn't always necessary.

I love (?) my R5 but was anticipating a terminal GAS attack when a R5 ii was to be introduced this year. Canon’s decision was welcomed to put the update off for another year. Then, after giving it minimum thought, I came to the quick and wise conclusion that the R5 is realistically all I really need (want notwithstanding). The upcoming FW update is frosting on the cake.

The EOS R5 changed how we think about mirrorless cameras, how we think about photography, how we think about life. The others, not so much.

Canon is the worlds only altruistic camera company.
