Hi, folks, I have a problem. I have a Nikon Z6 ii. Never had any problems with it, but hadn't used it in about 3 weeks, so it was in my camera bag (with 4 lenses). Last night, I took it out, and it won't power up. I thought maybe a battery problem, so I put the battery in the charger, and it is now fully charged. Still won't power up. Just to be safe, I put in a fully charged EL-15b battery (from my former Z6), and it still won't charge. I called B&H in New York (because they're where I bought it and they are open Sundays), and it is one month out of warranty, but they don't to repairs. Obviously, sending to Nikon may be a solution, but I'm wondering if anybody out there on this forum has had a similar problem and if there are any suggestions. I'm in a decent sized metro area (Dallas, Texas) and there are a couple of independent camera repair places that will work on Nikon (although, I know they have problems getting parts from Nikon), but I'm thinking if it something small maybe I can save the couple of weeks involved if I have to send it to them. But I also thought I'd ask here.

Haven't had any Nikon since film, so I'm guessing. Try taking both the memory card(s) and battery out. Put just the battery back in and try turning it on without the card(s).

A quick google for "reboot a Nikon Z6" suggested that pressing some combination of buttons in the right order might do something.

Send your camera directly to Nikon for repair. Call Nikon on Monday and discuss with them. I send ALL my current gear to them and have always been satisfied. Best of luck.

Start with calling Nikon Technical Support and have someone on the phone walk you through all the things to check for your non-start problem. If phone support can't get the issue resolved, then resort to sending the body into them.

A quick test, which will cost you nothing but a few minutes, would be to connect a USB cable to your camera, plug it into a source of power, and see if it shows any signs of life. Since the Z6 is designed to charge the battery in the camera, it should at least do that. I'd also check with a flashlight whether the 5 contacts in the battery compartment look OK and that there is no foreign material that could interfere with good contact. These are self-cleaning contacts, so I wouldnt mess with that.

Since the batteries appear to be charging, the problem is more likely with the camera. And I'd be more likely to thonk it's gotten itself into some sort of a "mental state," rather than that it has spontaneously died.

Calling Nikon is a great idea, although not necessarily foolproof. If you decide you want to validate your decision before shipping it off, I can recommend the guys at Garland Camera. Both the owner and the repair tech are conscientious and honest.

Call or take your camera down to Competitve Camera in the Fashion Market area. They are usually pretty friendly and knowledgeable. Arlington Camera as well, although they are pretty married to Canon and Sony.
