I have a D800. I have a Nikon 50mm 1.8 D and a 50mm 1.4D lens. The ape rapture lock lever release works when the lenses are not mounted to the camera. Now when I mount the lenses to the D800 the lever moves but when I change F stops I get an fEE error. It always worked before, yesterday started getting the error. Is anyone familiar with this? If so how it fix it? I may have moved the aperture lock when the camera was in AF mode so guess this was my error.

Maybe I am off, but have you cleaned the contacts on the cam & lens? Try that and see if it works.

Your description and question are a little confusing to me. Are you wanting to use the aperture ring on the camera to set exposure when using the camera? My D810 won't let me do that with an AF-D lens. The lens must be stopped down and locked, and the aperture set using the the command dial. That's the only way that the camera and lens can communicate with each other about what is going on, and the camera will properly stop the aperture down when you press the release.

If this isn't what you are asking, please take a second try at describing what you are trying to accomplish.

I did clean the contacts on both with a soft cloth.

I am trying to change aperture when shooting with an infrared filter. This worked previously. I would move the lever on the lens ( minimum aperture lock lever) and I was able to select any aperture, now I just get fEE error.

Ok. That's what I thought. That's not ever worked for me. Perhaps it's a menu setting that I've not encountered. Hopefully someone will come along and explain.

It’s been a long time since I’ve use that type of lens, but I believe the fEE error indicates the Aperture Ring is not locked at the smallest aperture (highest f/stop number). Are you trying to shoot in S or P mode? If so you will need to set the Aperture Ring to the smallest aperture (highest f/stop number) then set the lever to lock.

Did set it to the smallest aperture. It used to be able to select other f stops when the lever was later released with it mounted. Now I just get the fEE error.

I generally shoot in Aperture Priority on my D610...I select the aperture and the camera sets the shutter speed and ISO as I usually shoot with Auto-ISO as well. I keep my aperture control ring locked with my AF-D lenses and use the sub-command dial (front of the camera) to change the aperture. There is no need to unlock the aperture ring on the lens and select the aperture using the aperture ring.

Did the same with my N8008s and F100 film SLRs prior to moving to the D610.

P.S. - I just put my 50mm f/1.4D on my D610 and as soon as I turned the aperture ring away from f/16 I got the fEE error. The same with my 70-210 f/4-5.6D. You have to keep the aperture ring locked at minimum aperture and use the sub-command dial to change the aperture.

If you want to use the aperture ring to set the aperture there is a setting in menu that allows you to do that.

Flip is right, use the subcommand dial, even in manual as long as an autofocus lens or "chipped". Only use aperture ring if non cpu lens.

If you want to set the aperture of an AF lens (CPU lens) via the aperture ring you need to set the option f9: aperture setting to aperture ring instead of the command dial.
See the manual on page 317.
Otherwise you will have to leave the aperture ring to the minimum aperture. You don't need to lock it. The lock is only to prevent the aperture ring moved accidentally.

I think your memory is incorrect. With a D lens you have to lock it at the minimum aperture and set the aperture in camera.

Don't think so.
