I have 4 Nikon batteries for my D7100 and 4 aftermarket. I recently charged all of these batteries and was disappointed to find the aftermarket batteries not only didn't charge to 100% but also discharged rapidly in the camera. Have any of you had a similar experience?

Any input will be appreciated.

Bob

That is one of the reasons I only buy OEM.

Yes...I have exactly the same issue...my Nikon's original battery is still OK (D7200) ....but the 2 other ones I own are not able to last more than for 160 shots (with few image review or flash shots). Those 2 batteries (from "about battery" in Strasbourg /France) are only a kind of "safety net" when I feel the shooting session could turn quite longer than expected.

In my experience, if I use third party batteries, they are either promaster or Watson-. Watson's are sold by B&H and they have been using and recommending this brand for many years. I just bought a set of Watsons for my OM-1---I'll let you know how they work out. I have used them on my nikon 850 with no issues.

What are your third party battteries?

I have one Nikon, one Watson (which came with my D7200 that I bought from a UHH member) and four Vivitar batteries. Never had an issue any of them. I like the Vivitar because they are almost twice the capacity of the OEM battery. And less than half the price.

Figure the cost of the Nikon and the cost of the generic. Then compare how much mor/less use you get from each type. If you pay half for generic, but they give you 75% of the Nikons, you come out ahead.

Just appreciate all the money you saved when you selected non-OEM batteries. It is a roll of the dice, some may meet your needs but you must purchase them to know.

I have Nikons and I find that even those marked as Nikon OEM exhibit different levels of performance. Maybe some of mine are counterfeit? The batteries that came with the bodies are still performing well.

The Wasabi batteries that I bought work fine and fully charge. They last pretty close
to the Nikon batteries and Canon batteries.

When I bought my D7100 from B+H several years ago when it first came out. It was the full kit, camera, 18x140 lens, etc. Also they included a "bonus" Watson battery. I'm still using the original Nikon battery, the Watson only lasted 3 or 4 recharge cycles.

Bobfitz!

I bought a nice condition Nikon D810 almost 2 years ago via eBay. It came with 12 batteries along with other goodies: 6 Nikon OEM, 4 "Vivitar" and 2 were some other brand. The Nikon batteries are the same EN-EL15s that also fit the Nikon D7100 which I also had but eventually sold.

One of the Vivitars would not charge but all the others did and to this day work fine. I've also acquired a few others such as the "Power2000" brand and they are OK too. Since I buy only lightly used equipment and very often get the accessories too; accompanying batteries, even aftermarket have worked fine for me.

Most batteries and other accessories are made by only a few manufacturers and are also sold to other brands. These might be less than 1st quality and it's the luck (or not) of the draw. I've had good results with Brand X!

Be well! Ed

I've never paid much attention to exactly how long they last, any of them. But I don't notice any significant difference in performance. They work, they haven't failed, and that's all I care about.

That's true, there are only a few battery manufacturers who sell to everyone else. I don't know which one makes the batteries for Nikon, but I've never heard that Nikon makes their own batteries.

My first Nikon DSLR was the D90, and I've had several since then. I've always bought generic batteries, and I use them along with the Nikons. I've never had a DSLR camera battery fail.

My experience with third party batteries are not good. But I believe there are third party batteries that are as good as OEM or even better. However, I would simply buy OEM batteries as I don't think they are that expensive in my opinions.
