LR - "No photo in the selected folder"

While I have used LR for several years, it is getting very slow (could be computer issue) and now I'm having trouble seeing photos that have been imported. I'll import pictures and can see them, will exit LR and back up the catalog on the way out. On return, the folder I'm trying to see will have the correct number of pictures listed next to the folder name, but the viewing area will say what I titled this topic. I've been to Adobe's forum for help and saw where others have had this issue and a solution was provided that got them straightened out, but it didn't work for me or I'm not tech savvy enough to follow the instructions. I posted a question there and was told that it was probably a capitalization problem and was given a link to the LR Queen that explained how to correct it. Well, that didn't help me or again, I didn't know how to follow the instructions or because it didn't seem to be quite my symptoms.

I'm currently trying to import the photos again in a new catalog. Thought this would go quicker, but nope. Also thought this might solve the visibility issue and it might, but it is still grinding away, so I'll have to wait and see. There are 2754 pictures from an event I shot this past weekend, but if I can't view them........

Any starting points for an old guy?

None of us can remote into your computer and 'see' what you're seeing there locally. Assuming you're working with subscription software, open a technical support chat with Adobe and ask for their help as they can access your computer, if allowed.

What you describe could be any of a few issues, especially since there are no specific details in the summary of the problem. Did you import from the camera card instead of copying the images onto your computer? Did you look at the folder name and / or go to that folder on your computer and try to determine if the folder still exists, why are the image files missing?

The only way anyone from UHH can be more helpful is that you screen capture clear images of your LR desktop, use your cell phone if needed. You'd have to attach the resulting images. Personally, I'd try Adobe chat. If the issue is their software, they'll know and execute the solution you found in a forum.

Thanks. Yes, I haven't provided very much other than complaining. I'll try the chat with Adobe.

Regarding how I imported and do the images exist, I import from the card(s) into a folder set up through LR. It takes a little longer than forever to get them in, have it build previews, etc. While all that is taking place, I am able to view and start processing pics like I've always been able to do. It was after I got them all imported (2 cards) and exited LR with the catalog back up completed, then came back to LR that it showed the folder and the correct number of pictures in it, but the "No photos in selected folder" message came up. If I do a find in explorer for that folder, there are all the pictures. Actually there were more images showing than I had imported (3790 or so instead of 2754), but I couldn't view them on LR.

There are other folders that do the same and there are grayed out folders that you can also see on the screenshot. I know that all the pictures exist, just don't understand the accessibility issue.

There's likely a security issue on the folder / files, where LR isn't authorized to (re) access the images. I'd defer to Adobe to implement the proper setting, either on the LR software's authority and / or the security settings on the folders. Consider posting a reply that includes the link to what you found earlier but were unable to implement.

Regarding performance, go into your Edit / Preferences / File Handling. Check your Camera RAW Cache Settings. The location of the file should be a local setting, probably your C: drive. The size should be something reasonable and 'fits' on your available storage on the drive selected. If the size is the default 1GB, consider changing to 20GB to 40GB, depending on the available space on the drive location.

I've checked and changed a few settings, waiting now on it to finish with the card that's been loading for HOURS. Once that is through, I'll restart LR (with a catalog back up) and see where we are. So far, it isn't much faster, but at least I now have access to the pictures.
