A Japanese magazine has printed an article, now in English,
http://barfout.jp/feature/3146/
talking about Pentax's film project,
from the viewpoint of a photographer, a guy who develops film, and a designer.

Sounds like Pentax is having problems selling overpriced old technology DSLR cameras.

I’m not sure where you get that from here. Pentax skipped CP+ 23; instead of begging for customers amongst the crowd, they saved resources for unconventional forms of publicity, of quieter ways to keep us informed.

Overpriced!? You must be looking at a Canon or Nikon ad!

The K3iii body pricing started at approx $2000. It dropped to $1800 and is at approx $1700. It should be at $1200, max. If it had industry standard LCD technology and video quality, the pricing could justified at $1400.

For years I’ve been a dedicated Pentax camera owner (I have a K5, K-01, K3, and KP, including a number of lenses - 16-45, 20-40 Ltd, 50, 18-135, 50-300, 70 Ltd, 40 Ltd, 35 - so I have a valid concern when I see the company drifting in its technological inertia.

Why?? You have to include such goodies as the IBIS, which Pentax has been providing for a long time and the others have ‘discovered’ only since moving to their {‘expensive’} technology.

It’s not ‘drifting’ - who else is looking now at film technology? It is “going where no one else dares to go”.

From my memory, Pentax has been around a long time and has made numerous advances in the photographic field. They still make a good quality camera and contemplating a new film camera could be a good idea considering the awakening interest in film and procesing.
