It's getting to be that time of year here when the mergansers start showing off to attract a mate. These normally shy ducks brave the pond's edge like no other time of year. Perfect for photo ops.
In case you wondered, a merganser is simply a duck that dives and eats fish. This one is a hooded merganser for obvious reasons. Mergansers are also called sawtooth ducks in some areas.
