I need help! I've been shooting for decades and I've never done this before! But I need to recover some images off a card. It's a SanDisk Extreme PRO 16 GB. I've heard folks talk about recovering photos off the disk after it has been formatted. And now I need to do just that!

So, if you have done this, does it actually work? How does one do this?

First don't try to use the card. Take it out of the camera.
I think this link has some valid advice.

Everyone does this once, some twice! I'm included. I use Lexar cards and they have software downloads just for this job and I would expect the same of SanDisk. MOST IMPORTANTLY, don't do anything else with the card until you run the software, which may take some time. Check the packaging, or the SanDisk site for more information. Nothing will be lost except some time. Best of luck.

I've not had to do that yet, but have heard of several programs on this list:

DO NOT use any other software other than what San Disk directs you to!

On some camera bodies you can in fact recover image files after formatting the card, on others you cannot. I use RescuePro from SanDisk:

The software will lead you through the process.

Well, I can't check the packaging, since it is long gone. Thanks for wishing me luck.

That's likely good advice. Thanks.

SanDisk has their own recover software:
https://www.google.com/search?q=sandisk+recovery&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS937US937&oq=sandisk+re&aqs=chrome.0.0i512l2j69i57j0i512l7.10852j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Worked on stills, pulled up my wife's video in some form I can't get to play. Yes, I know from experience, I put one of my wife's SD cards in the wrong stack while downloading several of her cards and formated it. I am madder at me than she is, she shot nearly 1000 total images and short videos (this was her last card and only had around 200 images) during a weekend at Riverside Live Steamers (7.5" gauge) with our special needs son who loves trains.

Thanks. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who has done something like this.
