I am learning my R7 and was in search of something to shoot. Very cold and foggy this morning but I did find some color. The photo was softer than I wanted and would appreciate any suggestions. I hope I wasn't shaking due to the cold. I will increase shutter speed next go around and see if that helps.

Thank you,
Jim

We need a little more info such as aperture, shutter speed, lens (focal length), etc. Just looking, the front of the photo (middle of flower) is in focus and is sharp. The back of the photo gets soft. I suspect a depth of field issue. A longer focal length and wide open aperture can result in a very narrow depth of field.

Image was taken at, 1/250s, f/4, ISO800, 70mm

Due to the shallow depth of focus with minimal subject areas within the focus plane it's difficult to really assess. The higher ISO also does not help evaluation either.

A tough shot due to depth of field and high ISO, Jim. A reflector or flash might help lower the ISO. Hand holding on flowers can be difficult.

I shoot a lot if flowers and a tripod is a must and F/11 at least.

Thanks Mike. I will give the flash a try. Thanks again for taking the time to help.

I have two Canon bodies with the 32.5MP sensor a 90D and R7.
90D has no IBIS and is prone to motion blur when not held rock steady.
R7 with IBIS is not near as bad, but with a little effort "shaking hands wise" I can blur the details.
It is those dense packed tiny pixels.
I wonder what a 24MP R7 would be like as an action camera. I mean my 7DII is only 20MP and a lot less prone to motion blur.

Working on it. After a pinched nerve keeping me off my feet for most of a month than a pulled neck muscle that is just healing my legs and arms got a bit weaker.
So time in the yard watering etc. Walk the aisles at the store just looking to see what I can add to my list. Moving and cleaning n the house, I hope to get the strength back and lose the shakes and swaying.

Your focus point is on the yellow stamina (pleural of stamen) at the 3 o'clock position, and these are indeed in focus.
I think the lack of focus elsewhere is therefore the very narrow depth of field.

I too have the back issues, which can be an issue. Extreme narrowing of L4 & 5.

Not only are some of the stamens in focus, there is no sign of motion blur. The light is quite pleasing. While a flash would relax exposure constraints be careful it's not too harsh.
