Samsung Magician Software

I recently cloned a 500GB M.2 C drive onto a Samsung 1TB M.2 using Samsung's Magician software. It's super easy to use. I've had horrible experiences using all the other free ones, but this works perfectly. Unfortunately, it works only with Samsung drives. The Magician does a lot of other things, besides.

I learned something important - and obscure - when cloning with Macrium Reflect. When you're setting up to do the clone, one of the last steps is to click on "Copy partitions," and "Shrink or extend to fill the target disk." Otherwise, a 1TB drive will be cloned into a 500GB drive.

I bought only Samsung SSD but I do have to use Macrium when I want to clone a 500GB HHD to a 250GB SSD. Samsung software doesn't do that.

Oops.....

The software should ask a question if the destination disk is larger, so as not to surprise the user...

The samsung software only clone if the destination disk is the same size or larger. The Macrium can clone to a destination disk that is smaller. In many cases I don't need the storage space but only speed so I clone to a smaller drive and in such a case I have to use Macrium although I bout the Samsun SSD.

Same with Acronis, only same size or larger.
Not quite sure why one would go smaller.

Go smaller to save money because large SSD's are expensive. I switched from HHD to SSD for speed. Like the computer for my wife to stream video it doesn't need storage space but I want it fast.

Ahhh.
I'm fine with my HHDs on my desktop.
Our replacement laptops came with SSDs by default.

If the SSD is going to be the C drive, and the user will use a large HDD for data, a smaller C drive is understandable. The OS and programs don't take up much room, although I now prefer 1TB to 500GB since prices have dropped considerably.

If the primary drive on a desktop is a small SSD, I'd definitely add a large HD as D:\
My new laptop is a 512Gb SSD I believe. So now I don't have a copy of PHOTOS on the laptop. If I really need them away from our desktop (available via WIFI) I'll have to use an external drive.

I ordered a 1TB M.2 SSD and memory for my laptop yesterday, and it's out for delivery. Unfortunately, I can't start my laptop because it just did a Windows update, and it wants a password. I don't use a password on that. Excellent security! Even the owner doesn't have access.

I wonder where that came from.... What version of Windows?
Ive had some Win 11 updates come through, no anomalies so far...
We have passwords on our laptops, just in case they would get absconded somehow.

The current Win10. I used it a couple of days ago, and I didn't need a password. I'll try using Safe Mode and see if that works.

I have a Chromebook, and I understand that they must have a password. I have no idea what mine might be, so I'm not even going to try to start it.

Try your Microsoft account password.

If not, try booting into the repair console and use System Restore to go back to a previous date. Of course, you will lose your update.

I wonder what that is. It seldom works twice in a row.
