Listmates - I’m considering purchasing Topaz Denoise and Sharpen which I understand can be purchased separately. However I came across the Topaz AI package - Denoise, Sharpen and Gigapixel. I’m looking for suggestions - is the package worth it or is Denoise and Sharpen sufficient for sports photography? I do not know much about Gigapixel. Thanks in advance. Paul

Paul I kind of replied to this in your other post of the night game, even attached a photo from the output of Sharpen AI -- I duplicated the photo here plus another one.

I bought the entire package, which was on sale a few months ago and it fits nicely into my PS Lightroom work flow. I don't use the Topaz products in batch mode only because I only need to do them on a few.

Shooting tight has minimized my Topaz use. If I'm in the end zone of a poorly lighted stadium, yes I'll use Topaz denoise/sharpen or even try photo AI (which is both working together).

Attached are 2 photo's and the only two (out of couple hundred I posted on Maxpreps) that had motion blur in the eyes, which Topaz somewhat improved.

I do recommend the suite and adds a tool to your war chest improving those pictures you don't really want to toss in the dumpster!

Rick

I bought Noise, Sharpen, and Gigapixel, which earned a free copy of Photo AI. I'd say it really depends on how your going to use it. I mostly use noise because I think it does a better job of noise reduction and sharpening than ACR in Lightroom and Photoshop so I don't apply any in those. Sharpen I rarely use again because I like the results I get in noise, Gigapixel I only bought to use for when someone sends an image into the paper I work at that is such low resolution that I can't print it. The new Photo AI is too slow for me so I haven't really given it a fair shake and probably won't. My system at home is pretty fast so that's saying something. I try to process all my pictures from home because the older Intel mac minis at work struggle with all the products and I just don't have the time to wait. To give an example on average at home AI Noise will process an image on my home machine in about 3 seconds same image at work 2-3 minutes.

I bought the package deal they had a while back. Topaz Photo AI is awesome. Still learning I am not a tech guy. I love the results so far. This will save me a ton of photos I would usually delete. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I primarily shoot sports and have the package and Photo AI. I seldom use Gigapixel. Photo AI works pretty good when the pictures are really close to your desired result. That being said, I use DeNoise a lot as the venues in which I shoot are indoors, some of which have horrendous lighting. Sharpen I go to when the lighting was good and I was able to shoot with lower ISO. Say an outdoor sport. Take some time and look at your photos and see if a trend develops. i.e. - almost all indoors, outdoors, good or poor lighting. That will help you decide. Remember you can download the package contents for free and use them on some of your photos. That might help you make your decision.

Topaz Photo AI does so much in the default "AI" mode that there is seldom anything, except minor tweaks left to do, and it improves with each update. This is REALLY a Huge Time Saver for me when I can dump one day of shooting in the hopper and still receive Great results.
If you just came in from a shoot and after aggressively culling out the non-starters, open Topaz Photo AI, place all remaining pics in the hopper, and relax. Topaz Photo AI has DeNoise AI, Sharpen AI, Face Recovery, and auto "Enhancing Resolution" using only the "AI" mode, plus you have the ability to "tweak" each setting manually. Bottom line, if you are dipping your toes into Topaz Lab Products my Strong Recommendation would be to purchase Topaz Photo AI, period.
Best Wishes,

Although I did buy the Topaz suite to try it, I still prefer LrC's internal tools and consider Topaz an extra I don't really need. IMHO, YMMV. Best of luck.
