A bit of a strange game last night. Home team down 2-0 going into the second period. Came back to tie it. Start of 3rd was delayed as coaches and officials talked with league office and decided the ice was unplayable and went t a shoot out. Home team prevailed. A few images from the game. Shot with a Z9 paired with a 70-200 f2.8, wide open. ISO at 5000, shutter speed 1/1650.

A few from the game and if you want to see the rest, go to my website:

Nice set on your website! The end of the set you can see the ice didn't seem to be setting up. Your shots are starting to get me pumped to get back in the rink.

Thank you. They are going on the road until the 18th, so hopefully they can fix whatever was going on. I wore my normal hockey "attire" and realized I was warmer throughout the game. Thank you for checking out my shots and I hope you can get back in the rink soon!

Thank you for your kind words. I've been working on getting better and relaying that "feel".

Some great shots there. Very bright and colorful. Your rink must have really good lighting. I shoot some hockey at the local Junior games with my D750. I use the 70-200 f/2.8, but generally shoot at ISO 6400 and 1/1000 shutter.

Light is pretty good, but not great. The rink/ice does reflect the light a bit. A little exposure compensation seems to help pick up the slack too.

Excellent set. I really like the one with the closeup of the goalie catching the puck. Great stuff.

Thank you. I will have to admit the shot to which you refer has become one of my favorites!

Perhaps an interesting side note: Last year I noticed, I would switch ends of the rink to stay with the offense. One night I realized I had never focused upon the goalie! So I stayed there and got some nice shots of the goalie and a few decent "checks". Since then, I stay at the same end for the entire game, but for the second period, I move around to the side as far as I am able so I am looking AT the goalie! It has worked out pretty well.

Moving around the rink if your allowed is great for those different angles.

I can pretty much move around the entire rink, but they added a number of "suites" around it, so I try to be respectful of fans and look for unoccupied spots. I've found with minor league sports you often get the benefit a little more generous access. Even colleges can be a bit more restrictive!
