And that is how it’s done - the lesson here is wide open for subject isolation. Great set!

Thanks TriX. When starting out many and I mean many years ago I used Trix and Plus X with my Roliflex.

Brilliant Jules! Great mix of action and isolating that action from the background. Love the qb throwing the ball right at you it seems, those are so hard to get with the ball frozen. Colors turned out great for night photos, sometimes they get washed out a bit from the high iso and post processing luminous adjustments. Topaz did well for you, I use Topaz also but not for every photo. Enjoyed the series and I agree with the other uhh posters, wide open all the way.

Nice series catching the action and expressions of your subjects. Be careful though, you'll get spoiled shooting in daylight! LOL!

Tom yeah next Saturday for the semi-finals, then waiting to hear who is going to play at Allegiant Stadium home of the terrible Raiders. Last year I shot three games there, this year maybe one or two. We shall see.
Have a good one.

With my D4 and D500 those cameras are old and do not handle high iso very good. Looking forward to a daylight game like this coming Sat.

Jules, are you using a monopod to hold up that 300 f2.8? Great lens, especially for night football, but no lightweight. My son has the Canon version, and it weighs in at 6+ pounds. Worth it, but hard to hold at eye level for extended periods.

TriX at my age I always use a monopod for the 300, 200-500 5.6. No way could I shoot for more than 12 seconds without one. I still have trouble with the focus on the 300 2.8 going from near to far. Any suggestions? Just won't click in?

Sorry, I’m not a Nikon guy, but my thought would be that a D5 might be an improvement over the D4 - if you believe the specs, it’s the low light king of all the Nikons (including the Z series) - it was designed for exactly what you’re doing - it sacrifices DR for low light performance. On the other hand, some of the new Z series likely AF at much lower EV levels with better tracking.
