It's time for a new laptop so I am looking for opinions on IPS vs OLED. There are lots of IPS that advertise wide and well-calibrated gamut but I'm worried about the dark parts of photos. On the OLED side, I read that it can be "too good" given that many of the people viewing my photos won't have OLED screens.
I will run Linux on this laptop, so Macs are non-starters.
Surprised that no-one seems to have jumped in on this thread...
My recommendation would be that you take some images that you know well into a store which has both types of screen, and view them there. Only you can make this decision.
Most people will be using IHS at this time, but if you have the funds to invest in an OLED screen and the results satisfy you, you will probably enjoy the OLED experience.
The software that I use to calibrate does not currently include OLED as an option. How do you calibrate your existing screen(s)?

Lenovo is having a 50% discount sale on the ThinkPad T16 Gen 1. I bought one and configured it with the '16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-touch, HDR400, 100% sRGB, 400 nits, Low Blue Light, International Color Consortium.' I trust that it will do fine.
I use DisplayCal for screen calibration. You can download it for free from
https://displaycal.net/It supports OLED screens, along with everything else.
