I love photos of flowers, trees and anything in nature really. One of my favourite nature photogs is Canadian, Robert Bateman...oh if I could get half as good as this guy...

I love roses! I will have to look at some of Mr. Bateman's work. Your picture is alright but it does not pop. Something also about the composition. You are getting this from an expert on bland photos and bad composition (believe me when I tell you that my first attempts at flowers were bad). Yours is not bad. Your color representation is off a bit too. It seems that the red is over saturated somewhat. I have seen it happen with the best of cameras. It doesn't matter because it is a very pretty rose. If you try to emulate Bateman's techniques, I guarantee you that you will develop a style of your own that will produce excellent results. It just takes practice.

Good job!

I like the rose but the background behind and also to the right is very distracting IMHO.

I shoot alot of florals which are one of my favorite subjects and am getting ready to embark on a "Rose Series" using LED lighting. Kind of interesting because I make my cash as a sports photographer---kind of both ends of the spectrum. 1st off have to agree that the background is distracting and it looks like you were trying to stick to the rule of 3rds but you still have to be careful what's in the background or open up your aperture to blur the background---much easier to just put a piece of cloth behind the flower, then no worries. 2nd is the fact that red, especially in the deep reds of most roses is a very tough shot and you might have better luck starting with a different color. I'll include a couple of shots that I've taken in natural settings, which I like best and see what you think. Also don't get stuck on the rule of 3rds, centerism is still alive and well..........

Is the background a mirror? Is so it may account for the way the rose is not displaying true colour. As in reflected light on rose top. Sometimes I miss the surroundings because I am so busy with the image I want.??
