My 19 year old grand daughter just bought a 3 bed room 1 1/2 bath house on a basement with attached 1 car garage
She started working at 15. At 16 she was opening a gas station and then going to high school. She paid cash for her first car at age 17. When the pandmic hit and shut down school her reaction was to ask for more hours at the gas station. She graduated from high school at 17 and started working two 30 hour / week jobs because she was too young to work full time.
At 18 she started working at places that paid more and offered full time. She was promoted at both places. One place is 40/ week the other is 20 hours. Now that she has the house she can cut back on hours at the part time job. She has enough money in the bank to buy a new furnace if required.

She did this all with her own money. She has been saving since she was in grade school.
I just hope that the economy does not do her in

Her dad taught her to save and to have a plan. When working during high school she saved about every cent she made. With the 2 jobs, it was save as much as she could. For the last 5 years year she was living rent free at her dads. When she turned 18 she move into an apartment a year ago to establish credit so she could buy a house this year. That lease expires next month. Now she is doing a deep clean on her house and will paint the rooms before she moves in. She has a plan for the future.

She is a special lady

Personally I feel sorry for her as she lost the best teenage years to work. My high school years were fun coupled with studying. I had a great group of friends, band, sports, etc. It sounds as if she missed all of that. All work and no play makes ....

I guess your life was not as important as hers.

I do admire this young lady’s ambition but I also think she’s missed a lot. There’s a lot to be said for social contact and just having some fun. But we all have to travel our own path.

Congratulations are in order. Likewise, I hope those controlling the economy don't cause her any hardships.

Good for her, a good work ethic, sense of personal responsibility and smart with her money. You have reason to be proud.

What a great story! I’m a firm believer that some people are born with a wonderful work ethic and some are just not.
I saw this with my kids and to this day I wonder how I could have changed the outcome.
