Last night I prepared several photos by converting them from color shots to B&W. I wanted to post them in a FB photo group that is all B&W. I spent quite a bit of time fine tuning them and saved them to a new file created for those shots. This morning when I opened the files they look liked a solarization filter had been applied. While the shots look pretty interesting, they are not what I want to post. I don't know if a virus caused that but taking no chances I began a total system scan by Bitdefender. So far It has been scanning for 10 1/2 hours and I do not know how much longer it will take. So far 2 1/2 million items have been scanned with no resolved or unresolved issues. Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

That happens to me frequently when I am using Adobe Premier Pro while editing video. I will open a file that contains previously color-corrected scenes and when I do it, they look solarized. I wish I had a solution for your problem because if I did, it would solve my own. I suspect it's a bug in your program that contaminates your file. If you're working in photoshop, that bug may be systemic, across the whole Adobe spectrum of programs. I've usually been able to solve my issue by exporting the work and saving it under a new file name. Then when I reopen it, the problem goes away. Good luck with yours.

Thanks for the reply. I was planning to upgrade to Paintshop 2023 anyway and did that this morning. When I worked on a photo and saved it, it also did the solarizing. I guess my best bet is to remove all Corel from my computer and reinstall it. It seems the upgrade just added to the 2022 program already in place. I will try to contact Corel before I do this. Good luck with your situation also.

That definitely sounds like a software gremlin, not a virus or malware.

I've never had that happen with anything, but I've seen plenty of weird results that were my own fault for setting things incorrectly. I liked some of them!

I contacted Corel and was able to speak to someone in only about a minute. They put in a problem memo to the tech team and I should hear something in a day or two. I asked if I took all Corel off my computer would I be able to reinstall 2023 without having 2022 on the computer? I was told that wouldn't be a problem. Before I do that, I will see what the tech guys have to say.

I decided to take "all" of a program off my M1 Mac Mini and reinstall it (Plex - it'a a media management program that I use to stream movies from a disk attached to the computer to various TVs around the house.) I moved the app itself to trash and then did a search for "plex" in Finder to get rid of ancillary files - and it took 20 minutes to complete the ever-expanding list of files and folders. This was just searching the computer, not any external disks. After getting them all to Trash it took well over an hour for them all to be deleted - over 720,000 items were finally removed. I got a LOT of space back on the "disk" of the computer, although I forgot to note the starting "used" number so don't have an exact measure.

This is just to remind folks that programs create a lot of files while they're running. If you really want to purge your machine of all traces of a program, you almost certainly will have to do more than what any Remove Program function of the operating system does.

I use the super fast, super flexible search app called "Everything" to do this exact thing. I actually removed PLEX a long time ago as I didn't like it and it was what I call Bloatware. Everything uses UNIX style wild card searches so is very flexible. A search for *plex* will find every file on your system with plex in it in less than a second. You can sort them, highlight them, move or delete them. I always use Everything after uninstalling a Windows app, there is always a bunch of stuff that hangs around. You need to be careful you don't delete stuff used by other apps, but mostly, it's pretty obvious.

Everything is free and I've been using it for years:

I wonder if there might be a light leak somewhere in the system. You know, just like a darkroom light leak.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm on a Mac and Everything seems to be a Windows only app. I was just surprised at how long it took my all-solid-state-tightly-integrated box to first find and then remove the mass of files that had accumulated.

And the point of my post was that if you really want to "remove" an app, you almost certainly can't rely on the Remove Program function of the operating system to clean out all the bits that the app put on the machine while it was running.
