Viltrox EF-R2 Adapter on the EOS R7

I just received the Viltrox EF-R2 Adapter and found the control ring inoperative. A video chat with B&H support determined it needed a firmware update to work with the R7. I went to the Viltrox website but could not find any reference to the adapter on its product page or its download page.

This may be a result of Canon demanding Viltrox stop making RF mount products.

Viltrox is probably the wrong brand to be trying nowadays.

Is there a good reason you chose the Viltrox adapter rather than the Canon adapter?

Is $120 good enough?

You may be right, if its for a Canon R camera. OTOH Viltrox electronics are doing well with my Nikons and Sonys.

Acoarst I havent visited the Viltrox support site cuz everything is working well as delivered. If I had an a1 or Z9 that may be a new ballgame (or not).

That's probably true.

It's also probably why the Viltrox adapter is on sale for $69, $30 off the usual $99 price (versus $199 for the Canon OEM).

Have you contacted Viltrox and asked them for the firmware update?

It's pretty neat that Viltrox provides a USB port for easy firmware updates!

If Viltrox can't help you, maybe someone who has previously downloaded the update can provide a copy. I Googled it and found discussion various places where people had installed the firmware and it solved the problem.

The adapter still works other than the control ring, doesn't it?

I guess it is about $120 if you're considering the Canon adapter with the control ring. Enjoy your savings.

Or ..... return the Viltrox and get the basic Canon. Add $30 to get real OEM with the same functionality (no ring).

I have the same problem, but someone recently commented on this site of getting Viltrox assistance and successfully upgrading the software. I failed to bookmark the link.

OK, guys I agree with a Canon purchase. But consider where a Hog has an RP and an R7 and only one EF lens. Your sympathy is a little 'High and Mighty'.
