Yesterday I again had trouble updating the firmware for my Sony A1. When downloading the DMG file from the Sony website, I can’t find the file on my Mac hard drive to make the update. Same problem I had before. So I got on a chat with Sony, a guy named Fernando (where he was in the world I’ll never know) and he ultimately directed me to a different Sony site where I wa able to download the correct file. He said I had downloaded the correct file, but, again, I couldn’t access the file on my Mac. Two questions, does anyone have a clue why I can’t fine the file on my computer, and 2, why is Sony’s website so convoluted that I can’t get the the correct file to begin with. I’m sure there is operator (me) errors in this process and I guess I am just complaining due to my frustration. Suggestions?

Is it possible to take your camera to a camera shop and have them do it for you?
I did this with my A7-r iii while in Sarasota for two different updates.

Yesterday I again had trouble updating the firmwar... (show quote)

I just went through the process for my A7iii, and had no problems whatsoever. I downloaded the Updater file, and while it was downloading, it indicated where it was downloading to. So, no problem finding it. Set the camera up to the correct USB mode and connected to the computer with an USB cable. Started the Updater files, and it proceeded to the conclusion without a complaint.

But I was doing this on a Windows PC.

No issue on windows PCs. There are procedures to make this work on some of the newer Macs. Sony websites actually direct you how to do it on Macs.
https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/software/00260271

"On Mac computers with an Apple silicon (Apple M1) processor, you need to change the security policy. The About This Mac screen will show an item labeled Chip, followed by the name of the chip. Refer to the How to change the security policy on Mac computers with Apple silicon article. For Mac computers with an Intel processor, this step is not necessary."

It is only a issue with some Macs, not with any PCs.

Cheers

Since your issue was resolved successfully, why does it matter where the Sony tech was located, or was that just a gratuitous jibe at an Hispanic name?

I agree with MDI here, it doesn't matter what the Sony tech's name was, or where they were from, unless you have some prejudices.

There is no room for that stuff here in UHH which has members of all ethnic heritages, and from many countries. Show some respect, if you want any respect.

You know what, you guys are too sensitive. I don’t care what his name is, what his ethnicity is, what ever his pronoun is. I just don’t care. He, she, it was someone on the other end of the chat who was helping me, and I appreciated it. Wow, you guys are way off base. Go get a life. I was expressing some frustration with the Sony website and my issues about finding the download file where it was supposed to be located. Wow, amazing!

No disrespect intended. You are way too sensitive and reading between the lines. See my response to MDI. You are way off base.

As an American that has lived 71 years, and as a career journalist that has covered and been on the front lines of civil rights professionally and personally, I know and have been subjected to just your kind of not-too-subtle ethnic prejudices.

Of course you dont see or understand it, it is normal for you, but you have revealed yourself in your own words, enough said.

Lets move on.

There are none. Simple as that. And you are simply wrong.

You might find some other way of reliving your frustration.

Guys, let's realize that he was responding to his problem, and many times you get connected to the Philippines or India, and it is hard to understand the accent of the advisor. Don't assume the worst about someone, lest you be accused of the same thing! We all do not really know one another, and to assign some kind of label to a person based upon a small written item is kind of harsh.

Why was it racist? He simply mentioned the man’s name who successfully helped him. You closet racists see bigotry everywhere but never look in the mirror and see the real bigot.

"[A] guy named Fernando (where he was in the world I’ll never know)" is not by any stretch of the imagination a "simple mention."

I rather suspect that this sort of unthinking and reflexive comment is an accurate revelation of a person's true character.
